Participant Needed for Research Study on Audiovisual Environment
Our non-profit research institute is conducting a study on impact of stroboscopic (flashing lights) brainwave entrainment on stress reduction and burnout mitigation.
If you volunteer to participate, you will:
1. Sign up on our landing page: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdCZmUVVkwzXu6cciAo0T-eC5PErrs-1ZEiRLFb4D7IOqSbQ/viewform
2. Review and electronically sign an informed consent form.
3. Complete the first online pre-screening survey to assess your initial eligibility.
4. If you pass the first screening, you will complete a second in-depth screening to assess final eligibility.
5. If eligible, schedule and attend a 1.5-hour in-person session at the IACS research space at 2811 Wilshire Blvd. Suite 510 Santa Monica, CA.
6. During the session, you will:
- Complete questionnaires about your mood and stress levels.
- Be equipped with sensors to measure your brainwaves and physiological responses.
- Experience an 11-minute session of either alpha or theta frequency stroboscopic stimulation within an immersive reflective chamber.
- Complete additional questionnaires after the session.
You will be compensated $30 per hour (rounding up to the nearest 15 minutes) for your participation, with the session typically lasting 1.5 hours. You will also receive parking validation. By participating, you will contribute to the development of potential non-invasive interventions for stress management and burnout prevention.

The study will take place at the Institute for Advanced Consciousness Studies at 2811 Wilshire Blvd. Suite 510 Santa Monica, CA 90403.
- Participation is voluntary and you may withdraw at any time.
- All data collected will be anonymized and kept confidential.
- This study has been approved by an Institutional Review Board.
More information:
The alarming rise in stress-related issues among warfighters, such as suicide, alcoholism, and substance abuse, poses a significant threat to their well-being and mission readiness. Recognizing the critical need for effective stress management strategies, the Institute for Advanced Consciousness Studies (IACS), with funding from Lumena Labs, Inc. (Denver, CO) and the Department of Defense (U.S., Air Force), is embarking on a groundbreaking 90-day study to evaluate the impact of stroboscopic (flashing lights) brainwave entrainment on stress reduction and burnout mitigation.
This innovative research will compare two distinct stroboscopic brainwave entrainment protocols, alpha-frequency and theta-frequency, administered within an immersive reflective chamber environment (MindGym). Participants, randomly assigned to either protocol, will undergo an 11-minute stimulation session flanked by pre- and post-intervention assessments, including questionnaires and neurophysiological measurements (EEG, heart rate, and heart rate variability).
