Transportation Dispatch Supervisor

GENERAL PURPOSE
Supervise the day-to-day activities of a dispatch team. Work to ensure the efficient scheduling and dispatching of drivers to meet customer demands and company objectives. Coordinate with various departments to optimize routes, manage schedules, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
SCHEDULE
10pm-6am, Monday-Friday
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervise the daily activities of the dispatch team, providing guidance and support
Work to ensure that dispatchers consistently provide high quality service to customers, drivers, and staff
Monitor all dispatch activities to ensure timely and accurate delivery of shipments (raw milk, products/goods)
Make sure the team follows standard operating procedures (SOPs) for dispatch operations
Analyze and optimize routes to reduce costs and improve delivery times
Adjust schedules in response to changes in customer needs, driver availability, and other factors
Serve as the point of contact between the dispatch team, drivers, and customers when dispatchers escalate questions or issues. Handle customer inquiries and complaints, resolving issues promptly and effectively
Coordinate with other departments (e.g., warehouse, plants, customer service, sales and marketing) to ensure smooth operations
Generate and analyze reports on dispatch performance. Provide regular updates to management on dispatch operations and performance metrics
Oversee the use and maintenance of dispatch software and related technologies. Stay updated on industry trends and new technologies to improve dispatch operations
Ensure the accuracy of records and data in systems, spreadsheets, etc. (customer proof of delivery, bills of lading files, receiving credits, customer receipts, delivery schedules carrier/hauler info, costs, and other relevant data)
Provide feedback on opportunities and approaches to make improvements and use best practices
Lead special project initiatives as assigned
Perform supervisory activities such as time keeping, scheduling for appropriate staffing levels, delegating work, etc. Train, coach, and evaluate dispatcher performance on a regular basis relying heavily on first-hand observation. Conduct performance reviews and give guidance on goals for the dispatch team
Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, policies, and regulations
May perform duties and responsibilities of a dispatcher when needed

Class A CDL required
Undergraduate degree in business, transportation, logistics, or related curriculum (or equivalent combination of experience and education)
2 to 5 years of dispatch, logistics, transportation, or related experience coupled with demonstrated leadership attributes or team leadership experience; supervisor experience preferred
Union and DSD experience preferred
Certification and/or License - may be required during course of employment
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Strong knowledge of and skill with Microsoft Office Suite and company computer systems
Strong knowledge of the geographic region being supported and logistics and transportation regulations
Knowledge of principles and practices of supervision, training, and personnel management
Good leadership s ills
Able to analyze and decide on different logistical movements and adjustments with the intent to optimize
Able to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing
Able to organize time, energy, and resources effectively to achieve goals (i.e., organizational skills)
Able to problem solve difficult or uncommon issues and make quick decisions under pressure while remaining calm and composed
