General Manager position available with the FSO
Job Title: General Manager Organization: Fairbanks Symphony Orchestra Location: Fairbanks, Alaska Employment Type: Part-Time, 20 hours/week
About Us: The Fairbanks Symphony Orchestra (FSO) has long served as a cultural beacon in interior Alaska, delivering outstanding musical performances and fostering a thriving arts community. As part of our commitment to providing exceptional concert experiences, we are seeking a General Manager to oversee audience services and create a welcoming, engaging environment for all guests at our performances and events.
Position Overview: The General Manager is a hybrid position that plays a key role in delivering a seamless and memorable experience for all FSO patrons. This position is responsible for managing all front-of-house operations, including overseeing ushers, volunteers, coordinating with box office staff, and ensuring safety and accessibility for patrons, as well as overseeing logistical and technical aspects of FSO performances and events, and social media management. The ideal candidate will have experience in customer service or event management, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to creating a positive experience for all guests.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervise front-of-house activities during concerts and events, ensuring smooth operations and a welcoming environment.
Manage and train a team of ushers and volunteers to assist with ticketing, seating, and audience services.
Coordinate production logistics for all FSO concerts, rehearsals, and special events, including scheduling, equipment setup, and venue requirements.
Utilize ticketing software to manage ticket sales and maintain donor and stakeholder database.
Address patron questions, concerns, and special requests, including accessibility needs.
Handle any unforeseen issues that may arise during performances, working proactively to minimize disruptions.
Act as the main point of contact for patrons, providing a friendly, knowledgeable presence.
Oversee social media accounts and routinely update/post concert and event details.
Qualifications:
Prior experience in customer service, event management, or theater/venue operations is preferred.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a friendly and professional demeanor.
Ability to stay calm under pressure and resolve issues efficiently.
Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, according to the concert and event schedule.
Passion for the arts and commitment to enhancing the patron experience at Fairbanks Symphony Orchestra events.
Compensation:
This is a part-time position at approximately 20 hours per week. Compensation is $25 - $30/ hour depending on experience.
