Children’s Book Project seeks a part-time Community Outreach Coordinator / Book Bank Team Member to connect with book donor and client partners in the San Francisco Bay Area, and support operations at our Book Bank.

Since 1992, Children’s Book Project has been giving free books to under-resourced children throughout California and beyond. We’re a lean, nonprofit organization with four part-time staff, a volunteer board, and dedicated volunteers who keep our Book Bank running smoothly, giving away more than 12,000 books a month to children who need them. The Community Outreach Coordinator / Book Bank Team Member is a part-time, hourly position of 12–15 hours per week, reporting to the Book Bank Manager.

Responsibilities:

Community Outreach Coordinator

- Serve as our “ambassador” by forming strong relationships with community stakeholders with in-person visits to locations in the Bay Area, including, but not limited to:

- Meeting regularly with under-resourced schools, community organizations, public health clinics, etc., and curating and delivering books for each location

- Researching and visiting businesses, schools, etc. that could host book donation stands

Corresponding clearly and respond promptly to inquiries, follow through with timely deliveries of books

Book Bank Team Member

- Support all Book Bank operations including, but not limited to, lifting and moving boxes (inside the Book Bank and to and from cars) and processing, shelving, and displaying donated books

- Serve clients and book donors; assist volunteers

Requirements:

- Passionate and knowledgeable about current children’s books

- Enjoy meeting new people, representing our mission, and making strong community connections

- Own or have reliable access to a car for visits and book deliveries

- Able to perform physical tasks such as lifting and moving heavy boxes

- Excellent written and verbal communication, organizational skills, and follow-through

- Experience/interest with literacy, education, and/or social services a plus

- Knowledge of Mandarin, Cantonese, and/or Spanish a plus

Compensation:

$25–$30 per hour, depending on experience

Hours and Location:

Must be available to work at our Book Bank at 2166 Palou Avenue in San Francisco from 1–6 pm on Wednesdays and 9:30 am –1:30 pm on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month; remaining hours flexible.
