Middle School Science Teacher (Part-Time)
POSITION TITLE: Middle School Science Faculty
FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Exempt (50% time) Dec. 2024 - June 10, 2025
REPORTS TO: Associate Head of School
Position Summary:
The Riviera Ridge School seeks an experienced and motivated MS Science Faculty member for the remainder of the 2024-2025 school year.
The candidate should demonstrate the ability to provide a student-centered classroom environment and positive learning experience, differentiate curriculum to meet the needs of all learners, as well as foster intellectual curiosity and critical thinking skills through project based learning, design thinking and hands-on experiences.
QUALIFYING CHARACTERISTICS
Knowledge and understanding of and commitment to the school’s Mission, Vision & Core Values
Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in science, engineering or education
State of California Single Subject Teaching Credential with an emphasis in science, preferred
Subject area experience and a willingness to develop instructional skills will also be considered
Three years prior teaching experience at the middle school level
Flexibility in working across grade levels (6th-8th)
Demonstrated knowledge of subject area and a strong background in curriculum and instruction, classroom management, and assessment
Strong knowledge of how to accommodate lessons and assessments for students with identified learning differences
Experience with integrating curriculum across disciplines while using an essential question
Conversant in 21st century education practices
Proficiency in Google Suite and Google Apps for Education
Experience teaching with commonly available educational software
Experience with a variety of technology in the classroom such as computers (Mac), digital projectors, document cameras, Interactive Whiteboards, and iPads
Excellent verbal and written communications skills
Demonstrated leadership and facilitative skills
Strong public speaking skills
Ability to interact with students, parents, faculty and staff
Flexibility in working with a variety of faculty across the divisions on faculty committees
Strong ability to work collegially with the Division faculty and support team
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Design instruction that emphasizes critical thinking and problem solving through discovery and evaluation while making content relevant to students’ lives today
Deliver STEM-oriented instruction through Project-Based Learning methods using an Integrated Science approach (physical, earth & life)
Create hands-on project based learning experiences that incorporate design thinking, technology and independent research
Collaborate with colleagues to integrate curriculum across disciplines and participate in the MS STEAM Electives program
Work collaboratively with Associate Head of School, Division Coordinators and faculty to develop interdisciplinary and cross curricular projects
Supervise recess, lunch, drop-off, pick-up and assemblies when necessary
Facilitate, create, and participate in a variety of STEM related admission activities, clubs, enrichment programming, and other events.
Participate in the “life of the school” through service projects, assemblies, community garden, admissions events, mission related professional development and advancement events.
Seek and take part in professional development to enhance professional knowledge and educational training.
Actively participate in weekly faculty meetings
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Works in school environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts
Occasionally bend, stoop, and squat
May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time
Be able to occasionally lift up to 40 lbs.
Willing to work some evening and weekends for school related events or projects

This position is a permanent, part-time position. Pay is competitive and is commensurate with education, experience, and skills.
Salary Range: $70,000 - $100,000 depending on experience
