Clinician - Emergency Department

UPMC Altoona is hiring a Clinician or Clinician Fellow to help support our Emergency Department!This is a full-time position with a night shift schedule of 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. plus 4 hours of office time per week.This position is eligible for a generous sign-on bonus! External candidates are eligible for $15,000 in exchange for a 2-year work commitment.The qualified candidate will be placed into the appropriate job title (Clinician or Clinician Fellow) and salary grade based on years of experience and/or educationPurpose & Responsibilities:Building RelationshipsFoster teamwork by building and maintaining strong relationships with colleagues and external partners. Ensure thorough documentation to support effective care coordination.Leadership and ImprovementLead change by identifying opportunities for improvement and guiding changes in clinical practice. Support staff through transitions and lead quality improvement initiatives. Participate in leadership roles at the unit or system level and assist with performance evaluations for your team.Clinician Fellow Requirements:Minimum 2 years’ experience.If BSN is not at the time of hire must be enrolled in a program within one year of hire/transfer date and completed within three years of enrollment (i.e. public health, informational technology, administration, etc.).Clinician Requirements:Minimum 3 years of nursing experienceMaster's degree preferred. BS/BSN required.If a BS degree is not in nursing, a Master's or higher degree in Nursing is required.Sr. Clinician Requirements:Four years of nursing experience required.Prior progressive leadership experience strongly preferred for external hires.BS/BSN required.Master’s degree in nursing required if BS degree not in nursing or Master's degree in a related field if BSN is held.Employees with a BSN may substitute a master’s degree with a UPMC approved nursing certification required within 1 year of hire/transfer and must be maintained.Other Qualifications:Professional Competence: Demonstrate competence as a Professional Staff Nurse and apply your knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate care.Age-Specific Knowledge: Understand growth and development across the lifespan. Assess and interpret patient data to meet their age-specific needs according to department policies.Relationship Building: Establish and maintain positive relationships with executives, managers, physicians, other staff, and patients/families. Work effectively in a complex environment and manage multiple priorities.Clinical Judgment: Use exemplary clinical judgment and problem-solving skills in patient care. Lead others in applying the nursing process effectively.Physical Requirements: Be prepared for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients. Ensure you have the mobility and manual dexterity needed for the roleLicensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in practicing state.
National Certification preferred.
CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
Must obtain one of these eight certifications within two years of hire/transfer:
Acute/Critical Care RN (CCRN) OR Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses OR Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) OR Certified Flight Nurse OR Certified Neuroscience Registered Nurse OR Certified Progressive Care Nurse OR Emergency Nursing Pediatric OR Trauma Certified Registered Nurse
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
National Institute of Health Stroke Scale Certification
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
Registered Nurse (RN)
Act 33 with renewal
Act 34 with renewal
Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state.
