Wastewater & Water Operator-In-Training
JOB SUMMARY: Whatcom County Water District # 13 (WCWD) has an immediate opening for a Wastewater & Water Operator-In-Training. The candidate must be able to work independently to install, diagnose, repair, and maintain the District‘s infrastructure. Essential duties include but are not limited to:
Daily Water & Wastewater duties
Meter reading and register change out.
Maintenance of District facilities and water and sewer system.
Operation, inspection, maintenance, and repairs of valves, pumps, fire hydrants, and manholes.
Flushing of the water system.
Daily, weekly, and monthly sampling
Operations data entry in Excel and Word
On-call Responsibilities:
Provide response to after hour emergencies and working weekends on a rotational basis of every other weekend upon qualification.
The Candidate must use excellent communication, computer, and record-keeping skills to document work performed.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: We are looking for an energetic, independent, efficient, punctual, self-motivated, quick-learning candidate with a basic understanding of the safe and appropriate use of tools and heavy construction equipment. Knowledge of hydraulics, pumps, motors, utility repair, maintenance, landscaping and basic electrical is preferred. Candidate must have the ability to maintain accurate records and forms; communicate clearly; perform complex math equations; use a computer and MS Word and Excel Programs; meet preventative maintenance timelines and goals; work effectively with employees and the public in a courteous and respectful manner.
Working Conditions: The position is physically demanding and requires extended periods of lifting, carrying, and other forms of manual labor. Must have the ability to bend, crawl, and work in restricted areas. Must be able to lift tools, equipment, or materials weighing approximately 50 lbs. Work may be performed in a fast-paced environment and/or under adverse weather conditions.
Compensation Scale: $23.00 - $27.00

Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED
0-3 years related experience in utility construction or maintenance.
Obtain Water Distribution Manager 1 certification within 1 year.
Obtain Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certification within 1 year.
Candidate must have a valid Washington State Driver’s License and be available on-call for after hour emergencies.
Candidate must have Clean Driving Abstract and a criminal background check before offer of employment.
Candidate must live within 45 minutes of the Treatment Plant or relocate within 90 days of job acceptance.
