Our daycare services are paid by the family. The Starting Place is also the only full-service special education preschool in Columbia County. Our classes are staffed with a master level, New York State certified special education teacher and New York State certified teacher assistants. TSP staff also includes speech language pathologists, an occupational therapist, a physical therapist, a clinical social worker, and a full-time registered nurse. This is an Exempt position Monday -Friday 35 hours per week: 8:00 am 3:30 pm with 1/2 unpaid lunch Rate of Pay: BA degree: $805.00 per week MA degree with permanent certification: $840.00 per week Join our Team and you will be amazed at the relationships you create. GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB Design, plan and implement the classroom program for children in the preschool special education and Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) program services, as stated in the individual Education plan(IEP) or as needed upon request of the program management staff; provide consultation to parents, other program staff and others as needed to ensure that the needs of the children are being met and that the goals/objectives of the IEP are understood by all relevant parties. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepare and administer an appropriate curriculum for assigned class and for each individual child according to their IEP and the UPK curriculum; ensure the safety of each child during all classroom and program activities; coordinate the classroom program with the parents and related clinical staff, ensuring integration of clinical recommendations into each child's program; assist in the design and implementation of specific integration activities into the day care services as appropriate; organize filed trips and outings throughout the year that support the classroom curriculum.
Provide screenings and annual assessments to children enrolled in special education services; as a result of each child's assessment make recommendations as needed for: goals to be provided by the classroom and/or day care staff; methodologies to be incorporated by program staff in the provision of other goal activities; and recommendations for ongoing services and placement decisions to the Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE).
Consult with and advise parents regarding their child's progress through formal meetings two times per year and informal sessions as needed; foster parent participation in the classroom and program activities.
Confer with the clinicians and the Supervisor regarding specific or emergent problems and needs of a child and/or family; assist in developing and implementing solutions, including behavior management plans as appropriate.
Maintain lesson plans, progress notes, attendance records, parent conference notes and other necessary information regarding each child.
Perform data collection procedures and report writing in accordance with both the program policies and procedures and with the reporting requirements for each child's county of residence and local school district, inclusive of specific documentation to meet federal Medicaid billing documentation; prepare and submit routine reports of information or updates as requested by the Supervisor.
Coordinate the development of IEPs and give consultation to the program staff and clinicians regarding the overall educational program for each child in the classroom, inclusive of conducting demonstrations and training classes per the request of a clinician or the management staff.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree (Master's Degree preferred) in the field of Special Education (Pre-12 or Birth-Grade 2).
NYSED Special Education Certification required.
Valid Driver's license required.
Ability to become Pediatric First Aid and Pediatric CPR/AED required.
One or more years of experience working with preschool special education children preferred.
