Seeking tutors (Math, English, Science, SAT, SHSAT, ect)
New York, New york city 00000 New york city USA

Hi,

We are looking for tutors in the Brighton Beach/Sheepshead Bay region who are able to meet in-person, at our office, on a regular basis with students to deliver tangible results in their academics and test preparation. Currently, we are a small network of tutors who provide all manner of educational support. We currently have English, Math, and Science tutors, but are reaching our capacity and are looking to expand. We invite strong, smart, and personable tutors to join our team, and we offer competitive rates to those who fit the bill.

Who We're Looking For:

An engaging, fun, knowledgable tutor.

Someone who can make quick connections with students.

Someone who can cover curricula on the fly.

Someone who cares about student progress, and takes it upon themselves to figure out solutions to educational issues.

Someone who can cover multiple topics and is flexible.

Someone who has qualifications for their subject matter. If you want to teach the SAT, you should have high SAT scores yourself.

If you don't have experience, we still encourage you to apply, but you must have mastery over some topic.

Topics Covered:

This is a list of topics that we would like tutors to be able to cover, in relative order of demand. If you can do multiple topics, that is wonderful -

English (SAT; SHSAT; middle- and high-school math; College Essay writing)

Math (SAT; SHSAT; Regents Alg 1, Geo, Alg 2; middle-school math; Calculus)

Science (Regents/AP/College Chemistry, Biology, Physics; Gen Chem I/II Biochem; Orgo)

Computer Science (Middle-school level; AP Principles and CS)

Special education (working with students with learning disabilities at the middle- and high-school level)

If you don't fall into these categories, feel free to reach out anyways. We may not have a demand for your topic at the moment (History, for instance), but if that changes or we get a student for that, we will reach out.

Curricula:

You can choose how you want to tutor. We have many, many resources you can draw from and can suggest long-term tutoring plans that have worked for us, but in the end, you are the one responsible for bringing student scores up. If something isn't working for a particular student, you'll need to be flexible and adapt.

Workspace and Hours:

We hold lesson both online and in-person, at our office. Our office is located near Bay Academy in Brighton Beach. Once you've been paired up with a student, you'll be able to figure out a time with the parent/students that work best for all parties. Thus there is a lot of flexibility in your schedule, but subject to the availability of students. Generally, this means tutoring during after-school hours, or weekends.

Hours will be limited to begin with (1-4 hr/week), but as we begin to receive positive feedback from parents/students, we will begin to funnel more students your way. If you can only do online, you are still encouraged to apply, but preference goes to those who can meet with students in-person.

Interview:

Interview will consist of the standard niceties, but you'll also be expected to briefly explain/teach something from your chosen domain/subject. We'll pick the topic at random (generally something from a standardized test in that topic) and see how you do; so if you want to teach AP Chem, be prepared to answer and explain a random AP Chem question.

Rates:

If you have completed a graduate degree (PhD, Masters, ect): $50/hr

If you have completed an undergraduate degree: $40/hr

If you are currently completing your undergraduate degree: $30/hr

Rate is subject to increase if you have substantial tutoring experience and a track record to back it up.

A raise is guaranteed after the first 6 months.

(The working relationship is defined as that of an independent contractor, not an employee, fyi.)

To apply:

Please send a resume and brief cover letter to the craigslist-provided email in the header.

Include which topics you're comfortable teaching, and at what levels (see above for examples). If you have any tutoring experience that's not listed on your resume, please mention that as well. Also, please include the word "diligent" in your email so I can figure out who actually read everything; emails without that word will be deleted. We will do our best to reply within 3-5 business days.

Thanks, and looking forward to chatting with you!
