Quality Control Manager

The Quality Control Manager is responsible for managing all the quality aspects of their production facility and ensuring that all seafood products are manufactured in compliance with specific company Food Safety and QA requirements. They will manage a team of Quality Control Associates and Supervisors while working with production leadership to ensure company compliance, driven by regulatory requirements and customer specifications, are met. The QC Manager will lead, manage and work to improve the inspection and grading of Grade-A seafood products, perform and oversee microbial and moisture analysis, review and respond to written reports. They will be responsible for addressing daily Food Safety issues within the production facility related to product quality non-conformance and direct QC Associates and Production leadership to corrective action. The QC Manager will be responsible for writing new HACCP plans, SOP’s for production and assisting with tasks related to auditing as directed by leadership. This position reports to our Quality Assurance Director. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintain all Food Safety and Quality Assurance programs and certifications

Manage, lead, and develop the Quality Control team to follow company QC and HACCP plans

Ensure production facility adheres to regulatory, Food Safety, and company standards

Perform internal audits to ensure production plant is adhering to the Food Safety systems

Ensure Food Safety and Quality policies and procedures are maintained, understood, and followed by all employees

Manage all internal documentation within the facility

Verify daily QC and QA records

Maintain product specifications and ensure compliance within the facility

Manage and develop company SOP’s and HACCP plans, as required

Assist QA leadership in the development and implementation of new procedures and policies to increase business effectiveness and efficiencies, as directed

Contribute to the development of new products and processes with a focus on food safety and quality control, as directed

Perform customer return audits and assist with root cause analysis and corrective action

Plan, prepare and participate in all audits including: organic, kosher, customer, FDA, internal and 3rd party

Sustain and improve ratings on annual certifications

Performs other related duties as assigned

Requirements

5+ years, experience in leading Food Safety & QC Teams in food manufacturing

3+ years, experience as a decision maker responsible for interactions with customers, suppliers, regulators, and production leadership

BS in Chemistry, Biology, Food Safety, Food Science, or related, required

MS in Food Science or related, desirable

HAACP certification, required

SQF certification knowledge, required

Solid understanding of seafood or meat industry, strongly preferred

Solid understanding of government regulations and labeling requirements, preferred

Production, manufacturing process flows, and lean manufacturing experience, preferred

Experience in large and small company settings; experience and understanding of smaller company growth opportunities and expectations.

Experience and demonstrated ability to effectively manage Food Safety and Quality systems across departments and multiple locations.

Strong project management and organizational skills; able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects on time

Exceptional interpersonal skills: able to navigate organizations to build relationships and garner support

Able to provide leadership and resolve employee problems, complaints, and grievances

Able to provide support and training to department managers to achieve goals

Drive an environment that drives performance and a safe workplace

Drive an environment of teamwork and open communication

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to lift 30-50 pounds

Work up to a 10-hour workday: standing/walking most of the day

Hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling

Work requires the following motions: bending, twisting, squatting and reaching

Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals

Exposure to temperatures: <32 degrees Fahrenheit

Ability to work in wet and dry conditions

Ability to work Monday-Friday, weekends when needed

Ability to use tools and equipment, including knives

Specific vision abilities, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus, required
