May provide veterinary technical support for animal model studies.The University of Utah is recruiting a Flow Cytometry Technician to assist in the daily operation of the Flow Cytometry Core Facility. The Flow Cytometry Core Facility provides cell-sorting and analysis services to both internal and external investigators. The Flow Cytometry technician supports facility and staff and provides assistance in the overall work flow including calibration, operation, and maintenance of all sorters and analyzers. The Flow Cytometry Technician is responsible for providing guidance and assistance to new and existing facility users and will have the opportunity to work on several different instrumentation platforms. Current lab instrumentation includes: BD FacsAria cell sorters, Propel labs Avalon Cell sorter, Sony Cell Sorters, Cytek Spectral Aurora, Amnis Imagestream, BD Fortessa analkyzers, BD X20analyzer BD Celesta analyzer, BD Canto analyzer, Cytek DXP .It should be noted that this position will offer professional development driven by the desires of the employee. The world of “Cytometry” is large, encompassing instrumentation advancements, and scientific disciplines ranging from cutting edge clinical research to very basic science. Furthering cytometry education in the pursuit of a SCYM (Specialist in Cytometry) certificate is a reasonable goal and provides a formal process ensuring competencies in the field.Salary and rank will be commensurate with the applicants experience and training.Facility website: https://flowcytometry.cores.utah.edu/Responsibilities

Confers with senior laboratory personnel regarding the procedures and techniques to be followed in conducting research and recommends modifications as needed

Performs specialized tests and procedures using complex equipment.

Procures supplies and materials needed for laboratory research.

Conducts literature reviews to obtain abstracts and information to be utilized in research.

Makes statistical calculations, analyzes data and prepares reports summarizing results.

May supervise the care of research animals; perform minor animal surgery or collect animal tissues and specimens for laboratory analysis.

Orders supplies and experimental materials needed to conduct research.
