Candidates must possess the minimum qualifications and a current 55b/c eligibility letter.NY HELPSThis title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.NON-COMPETITIVE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:To be considered for appointment through NY HELPS, or 55 b/c, candidates must meet the open-competitive minimum qualifications for this position. The qualifications are: There are no education or experience requirements for Office Assistant 1 (Stores/Mail). Duties Description Under the direction of the Regional Business Office Administrator for Allegany Region, the incumbent will perform the following duties: Process incoming mail by date stamping, sorting, and distributing to the appropriate party. Logging and tracking incoming package deliveries, notifying recipients, and arranging timely distribution. Process outgoing mail by packaging, applying postage, and ensuring pickup or delivery to postal service. Preparing package shipments by securing items and properly labeling them for shipment. Operate postage machine and maintain balance of available postage. Serve as Business Office receptionist, greeting and directing in-person visitors, and ensuring only permitted access. Assist Business Office with maintaining office supply inventory (tracking and ordering). Assist with general office supporting tasks (filing, copying, scanning). Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work environment in the mailroom. Responding to inquiries from staff regarding mail and Business Office staff availability. Communicate effectively with other staff and park patrons in a responsible and courteous manner under stressful conditions. Work effectively in a team setting and demonstrate flexibility in tasks and schedules. Follow all instructions and written directives with accuracy and efficiency. Assist with other duties as assigned. Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS: Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment. Must have the physical ability to perform medium to heavy lifting. Must have basic computer knowledge in MS Office applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Teams.ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:The CSEA contracts allow for salary protection for seasonal / hourly employees who are appointed to permanent graded positions with lower hiring rates under certain circumstances.
