JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:The College of Agricultural Sciences seeks applicants to assist with performing lab and field experiments, caring for insect colonies and other general lab duties in the Hermann Lab. The candidate would help with research associated with our Aphid-natural enemy chemical ecology project that will focus on how predatory and parasitic insect odors affect aphid behavior through lab and field experiments. The candidate may assist with other lab side projects throughout the semester/summer. No experience is necessary, but a passionate personality and inquisitive nature are helpful.Job DutiesPrimary Duties and Responsibilities
Research Focus: Predator-prey interactions in agricultural systems and chemical ecology
Research will Include: Lab work (assisting in experimental setup), field work (assisting in planting research plants and experimental implementation), collecting plant volatiles, working with insects/arthropods, assisting in insect colony care, and assisting in plant care.
Requirements and Qualifications
Candidates must be enthusiastic and self-motivated, detail-oriented, willing to work flexible hours, enjoy working in the lab and outside, and be able to work independently.
This job requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid US driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks . A personal vehicle is not required.

Location and Commitments
The work will be at the Agricultural Sciences and Industries Building on the University Park campus, at Rock Springs Agricultural station, and at various farms across the state of Pennsylvania.
A maximum of 25 hours/week, specific working times are flexible and will be discussed and set at the beginning of employment.
Most work will be restricted to weekdays and normal working hours but there may be occasional data collection events that require weekends or odd hours.
