Under general direction, assists and advises litigants in family support, domestic violence, and other family law matters; and performs related duties as required.
ADDITIONAL MONETARY/BENEFIT VALUE:
In addition to the base wage listed, employees in this classification receive:
- The Court pays 100% of Employee + Family health premium (eff. 1/1/2025)

Examples of Duties
1. Meets with litigants to mediate issues of child support, spousal support, and maintenance of health insurance.
2. Prepares support schedules based on statutory guidelines accessed through existing up-to-date computer technology.
Drafts stipulations to include all issues agreed to by the parties.
3. Reviews paperwork, examines documents, prepares support schedules, and advises the judge whether or not the matter
is ready to proceed.
4. Prepares formal orders consistent with the Court's announced order in cases where parties are unrepresented, or as may
be directed by the Court.
5. Assists the Court with research, provides information and direction to clients and any other responsibilities that enable
the Court to respond to litigants' needs, and enable litigants to gain meaningful access to Family Court.
6. Serves as a special master to hear proceedings, and makes and reports findings to the Court, Develops programs for bar
and community outreach.
7. Works cooperatively with community groups and other legal service organizations to develop, train, and coordinate a
volunteer force component to provide services to litigants.
8. Maintains records and prepares monthly reports for the Supervising Judge.
9. Recruit, train, motivate, and supervise volunteers.
10. Other duties as assigned.
Employment Standards
Knowledge of:
- Organization, powers and limitations of the county, the courts, and other public agencies
- California Constitution, family law, trial procedures and the rules of evidence
- Family law support software programs and family law forms
- Code of Professional Conduct and Rules of Ethics
- Domestic violence issues, resources and referral processes
Ability to:
- Appraise, interpret, and apply legal principles and precedents to difficult legal problems
- Present statements of fact, law, and argument clearly and logically in written & oral form
- Conduct effective legal research individually and with others
- Write clear, easy to understand directions for Family Law procedures
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with Judicial Officers, court staff, District Attorney's Office, and
local family law & domestic violence resource community
- Work and communicate effectively with people of diverse backgrounds, abilities, opinions, languages, issues and/or
economic status
Minimum Qualifications:
Any combination of training and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities. Typical ways to obtain the knowledge and abilities required would be:
1. Graduation from an accredited school of law; AND
2. Active membership in the State Bar of California; AND
3. Five years of professional experience practicing law, including three years of progressively responsible experience as
an attorney with emphasis in family law matters.
Additional Qualifications:
1. Minimum of 40 hours' training in mediation techniques and approaches.
Highly desirable candidates will possess the following:
1. Experience as an attorney in Title IV-D cases.
2. Spanish language fluency.
