Staff members at Juniper Root have a unique position in terms of supporting children in the process of educating themselves. We are a self-directed school which means that the children are the pilots of their own education. Staff-members serve as guides and facilitators in this process. They develop trusting, authentic relationships with the students and learn how to best support each child as they develop the skill of navigating their own unique path.

The person hired for this job will:

-Work one-on-one with our older children (age 6-11). You will support children for short blocks of time in their individual work.

-Be available to substitute for full-time staff members if they are sick, etc.

-Help maintain our indoor and outdoor space

-Contribute to the conversation of developing our school and redefining education by attending staff meetings (2 hours paid, one per month)

-Become a part of our close-knit community

Requirements:

-Experience working with young children

-Growth mindset

-Flexibility

-Ability to think on your feet and develop creative solutions

-Willingness to examine and continually evolve your relationship with education

Bonus:

-Prior experience in Alt Ed environments

Here are some logistics:

5-20 hours/week to start (with potential to develop into full-time)

Starting wage: $18/hour while training, potential for quick growth
