Become a Pre-Apprentice for Healthy School Food - Sweetwater

We have an exciting opportunity for you to make a difference in Sweetwater Union schools! We are currently looking for motivated people who love cooking, have a hunger for knowledge, and feel a deep desire to make a difference in the community. If this is you or someone you know, we have a unique opportunity to impact school food with Chef Ann Foundation’s earn-while-you-learn, scratch cooking Pre-Apprenticeship!

The Spring 2025 application is open NOW through January 31, 2025.

The spring program begins on March 31, 2025 and ends on May 23, 2025

Our hybrid program is 7 weeks and includes:

- 3 online School Food Institute Courses: 20 hours (3 hrs pre-read, 3 hrs homework, 9 hrs online learning)

- 2 virtual learning sessions: 3 hours (2 sessions, 1.5 hours each)

- On-the-job learning: 84 hours (in person 12 hours a week)

By participating in the Pre-Apprenticeship, you will build your professional knowledge and gain hands-on experience of what it takes to make scratch-cook meal programs happen in schools. Pre-Apprentices will be paid $17 per hour for on-the-job learning and receive a certificate of completion from the Division of Apprenticeship Standards (DAS). College credits may also be available!
