Position Title: Diesel Mechanic (Garbage Trucks)

Reports to: Maintenance Supervisor or Manager

Schedule: Tuesday-Friday 4x10's 9:00 AM -7:30 PM

Required Skills and Knowledge

· Must have a current Commercial Driver’s License (Class B) or ability to obtain

· A/C certified or ability to obtain

· Ability to diagnose electronics

· Ability to perform annual inspections

· Must have a clean driving record.

· Air brake certified or ability to obtain

· General knowledge of trailer repair

· Working knowledge of Cummins engines, Allison and Fuller transmissions, Eaton and Rockwell rear ends.

· Basic truck wiring, welding, fabrication and troubleshooting.

· Must be safety conscious and have an excellent work ethic

POSITION SUMMARY: Performs repairs and maintenance on trucks, machines and heavy equipment to maximize safe and productive operations. Assists other Mechanics in repairs and maintenance. Drive safely and courteously and obey all traffic laws.

Must pass a pre-employment Drug Test and Background Check

Education and Experience:

Must possess a high school diploma or a GED. Must have at least three years verifiable work experience in truck repair and maintenance.

Garbage truck experience a place

Minimum Physical Requirements:

Lift carry and push/pull at least 75 pounds.

Climb into and out of truck.

Must pass a pre-employment Drug Test and Background Check

RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Ability to work in a team environment and communicate well with co-workers and route drivers

· Diagnoses mechanical problems and perform repairs and maintenance on all vehicles, machines or heavy equipment to maximize safe and productive operations.

Must be able to perform scheduled work safely and in a timely manner and quality, while following company policies.

· Helps transport vehicles to outside service for repairs, as needed.

· Troubleshoots problems and/or tests repairs to ensure proper and safe completion.

· Reads and interprets VCRs (vehicle condition reports) and/or repair orders, communicates with supervisor and/or driver for clarification of problems. Discusses preventive techniques with drivers to minimize future repairs.

· Completes paperwork associated with repairing vehicles, documenting parts usage, and accounts for applied times (work order times versus time card times).

· Makes emergency road calls to repair trucks.

· Retrofits older trucks with new equipment.

· Follows all safety policies and procedures.

· Communicates regularly with the Maintenance Supervisor or Manager regarding work schedules, job assignments, and other shop issues.

· Keeps shop clean and orderly

· Performs other job-related duties as assigned
