Garden Maintenance Manager
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Artful Garden, a woman-owned landscape design, installation and maintenance business located in Seattle, is seeking an experienced landscape manager to join our team. This position will require some hands-on landscaping and ultimately supervising a small crew of experienced landscapers and managing all client sites. The position is based in a home office near Columbia City, clients are located throughout the greater Seattle area and Eastside. Come grow with us!
Administrative Support:
Participates in weekly manager meetings with a full understanding of: upcoming maintenance schedule, maintenance client needs and maintenance budgets, new maintenance clients, and subcontractor needs and schedules
Works with Owner to maintain employee/garden schedule
Coordinates Design Team to support maintenance plant fill-ins and plant shopping
Crew Management and Training:
Works with Management Team to hire and onboard new employees. Ensures all staff in Maintenance Division get timely evaluations.
Coordinates monthly crew meetings. Trains gardeners on all garden tasks including documentation, seasonal tasks, plant care and pruning.
Garden Management and Customer Service:
Maintains consistent and timely communication with all clients
Coordinates first time walkthroughs with clients with support from Design Team
Bidding/estimating all projects arising from Maintenance Division with the support of Owner and Assistant including subcontracted seasonal needs & projects
Performs regular walkthroughs in all gardens to assess garden needs and to address any concerns arising from clients or gardeners. Secures support from Design Team as needed.
Maintain specific gardens and assist with installation plantings.
Irrigation:
Maintains irrigation clocks at all properties
Trains gardeners on proper use of clocks, moisture evaluation, hand watering techniques & minor irrigation repair
Schedules subcontractor for turn-ons, winterization, repairs and adjustments
Integrated Pest Management:
Investigates current pest problems. Troubleshoots solutions and follows up with subcontractors when needed. Creates comprehensive pest management guidelines for business and trains all gardeners in current IPM practices
Position supported by Assistant Maintenance Manager, Office Coordinator and Owner.
QUALIFICATIONS:
3-5 years high-quality horticulturally diverse professional experience in residential garden care.
1-3 years experience supervising landscaping crews
In depth knowledge of ornamental plants commonly used in PNW landscapes
Knowledge of trees (identification, care and light pruning)
Knowledge of native plants and edibles
Knowledge of soils, pests, and plant disease
Familiarity with greater Seattle area
Proven superb customer service skills
Solid problem-solving skills, including the ability to communicate to Management Team a well-thought through solution in a timely manner
Flexible, able to switch gears often and quickly
Ability to create effective priorities, work within deadlines, document task lists, keep others informed of progress and be a strong team leader.
Excellent organization and time management skills
Able to maintain a positive attitude while working at a fast-pace
Energetic and healthy; able to lift at least 50 pounds
Ability to drive a manual transmission or willingness to learn
Willing to work outside in all seasons and weather conditions
Record of safe driving skills
