Summary

Established, highly reputable Asphalt Paving and Heavy Civil Contractor seeking experienced Cost Estimator. The Estimator plays a vital role in securing construction contracts and maintaining company profitability by correctly assessing material requirements, generating accurate cost estimates, and helping to generate a consistent revenue stream.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Material Quantity Estimation: Analyze blueprints, technical drawings, and project specifications to determine job requirements and calculate the material quantities needed for various components.

Generate Cost Estimates: Collaborate with management team and suppliers to determine project-specific material prices. Calculate the total cost of material for each job based on area, depth, volume, and material type. Prepare detailed cost estimates, considering competitive labor and equipment production, trucking requirements, haul times, and other critical job expenses.

Project Coordination: Work closely with project managers and site supervisors to understand project scope, timelines, and budget.

Quality Control: Verify that the project specifications are being met. Identify any discrepancies or deviations from estimated quantities.

Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of material quantities, costs, and adjustments. Assist with project billing.

Business Development: Work to establish new client relationships, maintain existing relationships, and identify new market opportunities.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to execute each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability necessary for the position:

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent. Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.

Proven experience as an Estimator or Project manager in related field (min. 3 years).

Familiarity with construction software (e.g., Sage, Bluebeam, Planswift), or ability to learn

Demonstrated knowledge of construction, engineering, and/or architecture principles

Required Skills:

Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

Proficiency in the use of spreadsheets and estimation tools.

Knowledge of industry standards.

Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Must be competent in reading, interpreting, and working from blueprints, drawings, specifications, and other contract documents.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
