Legal Assistant
Description Robert Half is recruiting a Legal Assistant for the East Bay office of a leading national trial law firm. The Legal Assistant is responsible for administrative support of the firm's busy litigators. This is a wonderful opportunity to work in a friendly office with a very collegial team and do hands-on litigation support on behalf of individual clients and their families.The following are the responsibilities for the Legal Assistant: Open and maintain case files containing client contact information, medical records, case activity, list of court dates, settlement information, etc.; Assist with drafting, formatting, and prooing of court pleadings and discovery requests/responses; Prepare correspondence with clients, referring counsel, opposing counsel for attorneys’ signature; E-file motions in state and federal trial courts and do service of process on opposing counsel and other parties to the lawsuit; Enter court appearances, discovery, and motion due dates into Master Calendar and apprise attorneys of upcoming deadlines; Research federal, state, and local courts rules and civil procedure codes to ensure proper filing and docketing timeline for legal documentsThe following are the qualifications for the roles: 2+ years of legal administrative assistance experience (including in a position such as receptionist, office services admin, or legal secretary); Employment at a plaintiff-side tort/personal injury law practice (need for sensitivity and compassion!) is preferred; Good word processing skills in MS Word (good formatting skills needed) and proficient with office software; and Excellent communication skills, team player but can also work independently, able to work fast under pressure to meet multiple deadlines, and manage numerous tasks for heavy caseload; and High attention to detail, very organized, sound decision making and creative problem solving abilities;This is a direct-hire opportunity. Thank you!Requirements At least 2 years of experience in a Legal Assistant role Demonstrated ability in assisting attorneys with case preparation and management Experience in asbestos litigation is required Capable of managing calendars, scheduling appointments, and organizing deadlines Must have civil litigation experience and a comprehensive understanding of civil procedures Experience in client intake procedures and maintaining client relationships Proficiency in computer research and use of legal databases Familiarity with court filing protocols and extensive knowledge of court rules Experience working with state courts is necessary Ability to draft detail oriented correspondence and legal documents Proficiency in e-Filing systems and processes Experience in preparing and managing exhibit lists for trials Comfortable working in a law firm setting Demonstrated ability in preparing, reviewing, and managing legal documentation Ability to organize, maintain, and manage legal files efficiently Strong skills in conducting legal research Experience in litigation - plaintiff is a must Previous role as a Litigation Legal Assistant is preferred Experience in drafting, reviewing, and filing motions Experience in personal injury litigation is required Demonstrated ability in preparing pleadings for court proceedings Familiarity with the service of process in legal proceedings Robert Half is the world’s first and largest specialized talent solutions firm that connects highly qualified job seekers to opportunities at great companies.
