Description We are seeking a Medical Billing Specialist to join our team located in Flint, Michigan. This role is essential in the healthcare industry, focusing on accurately assigning codes to outpatient medical records, verifying patient data, and working closely with providers to identify the appropriate codes in selecting patients' care plans. This opportunity offers a contract to permanent employment opportunity. Responsibilities: Assign accurate codes (CPT-4 and HCPCS) to outpatient medical records based on medical record documentation. Verify, modify, and abstract patient data to meet data integrity and organizational specific protocols and requirements. Keep up to date with the coding and classification system(s) revision cycle (ICD-10-CM and MSDRG annually) and understand changes that impact coding, compliance, and reimbursement requirements. Utilize the multiple electronic and hard copy resources available to assist in understanding and accurately assigning coding and classification codes. Collaborate with the providers to identify the appropriate ICD-10, CPT and HCPCS codes in selecting the patients’ care plans, associated orders for treatment and any co-morbid conditions. Provide education on the appropriate documentation to support all codes captured by the providers in the electronic health record. Undertake other related duties as assigned. Requirements Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Medical Billing Specialist or in a related role. Proficient in using Allscripts and EHR SYSTEM. Experience with Epaces is a must. Strong knowledge of Accounts Receivable (AR). Familiarity with Appeals procedures and protocols. Understanding of Benefit Functions within the healthcare industry. Expertise in Billing Functions, including insurance and patient billing. Experience in Claim Administration, including submission and follow-up. Proficiency in Medical Billing procedures and protocols. Knowledge of Medical Coding, including ICD-10 and CPT codes.
