We are currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer I to join our Engineering Services team. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide engineering expertise for both internal and external customers.
Provide engineering support to field personnel for capital and maintenance projects
The position will assist the project team in executing large and small scale engineering and construction projects related to electrical generating facilities (thermal, hydro, wind, solar, storage), substations, transmission line, and office facilities in accordance with Minnesota Power standards.
Candidate shall be responsible for the successful delivery of projects through management of internal staff, external contractors, financial control, and strong change management skills.
Services include: project planning, development, design, evaluation, estimating, implementation, project management, construction management, technical guidance, and documentation.
Ideal candidate will participate as a key contributor and technical expert on the project team and may provide technical guidance to others as assigned.
Preferred candidate is a self-starter that can work well in a team-based project environment and independently.
Promote positive change in Minnesota Power business strategy through achievement of customer specific objectives.
This position will assist Minnesota Power employees, engineering consultants, and contractors to implement projects.
REQUIRED EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited program or equivalent.
Candidates completing their degree by June 30th, 2025 will be considered.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
No experience required. Utility engineering intern experience desired.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The position will report regularly, in person, to the Downtown, Duluth, MN office.
This position may be considered for a hybrid work arrangement based on the needs of Minnesota Power. In a hybrid work arrangement, the employee’s work location will be a blend of work in-person at the Duluth, MN office and at an offsite location such as an employee’s home office.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
The position requires travel to different Minnesota Power/ALLETE facilities and project sites.
After hours and out of town travel is occasionally required.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills required to establish and maintain positive working relationships.
This position may be subject to assessment of skills, job match and/or aptitude.
The expected annual compensation range for this position is $64,000 – $80,000. Compensation offered to the selected candidate will vary depending on relevant knowledge, skills, training, experience, and market conditions.
