About Us:
Founded in 2006, Mālama Kauaʻi is a community-based, 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that focuses on increasing local food production and access for Kaua‘i. We do this through a lens of resilience and sustainability, which leverages workforce and economic development efforts, partnerships and innovative programs to grow community capacity.
Our food hub programs support commercial, institutional, and consumer buyers all over Kaua‘i in purchasing local food through kauailocalfood.com. We also focus on increasing healthy food access through SNAP/EBT, DA BUX, and free food distributions to those in need. MK currently purchases from over 100 farmers, ranchers, and food producers across the island to support the growth and sustainability of our island’s local food system.
The Job:
This full-time position is Mon-Fri, with some flexibility in setting your weekly schedule. This in-person position is located at our beautiful brand-new food hub facility in Moloa‘a!
The role includes overseeing food hub operations and customer support, leading our friendly packing and driving teams, and supporting key administrative tasks of running the food hub. Reports to the Food Hub Manager and helps to oversee packers/drivers, volunteers, and intern(s). Duties include, but are not limited to assisting the Food Hub Manager with various hands-on and administrative tasks as needed:
Providing email and phone support to various customer types, and processing order changes, refunds, credits, etc.
Overseeing intake and packing of products, providing quality control, and giving feedback to farmers and food producers
Coordinating day-to-day logistics and managing staffing of islandwide pickups and deliveries of product for various programs alongside Food Hub Manager
Providing support and mentorship to in-field team, volunteers and interns, and customers
Monitoring the maintenance of facilities and vehicles, and compliance with food safety and storage standards
Complete various paperwork including packing slips, invoicing and check requests
Track key performance indicators and analyze program data to guide food hub programs to success for revenue and impact dually, with a keen business sense to build efficiency
We are open to training someone with the right attitude, but it is helpful to have the following:
Experience using software, such as websites, databases or e-commerce platforms and strong Google Drive/Docs/Sheets skills
Knowledge about local food and previous administrative experience
Highly collaborative and comfortable working with our team, customers, and vendors
Strong project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously while remaining attentive to details
A passionate and results-oriented work style, with an internal desire for ongoing improvement
A flexible and positive attitude committed to improving our food system and having fun while doing it
Pay & Benefits:
Pay is $25/hr, and benefits include discounts on local food and commercial kitchen use, 10 paid holidays, 2 weeks paid time off in the first year, 401k w/matching, and a no-cost medical insurance plan that includes health, dental, vision and massage/chiropractic.
