About Our Program
At Kern Tutoring, our mission is to empower students by boosting their confidence, improving their grades, and helping them achieve their academic goals. We provide support to local students from kindergarten through 12th grade in reading, math, and homework assistance.
Our tutoring center is conveniently located in Downtown Bakersfield, and our tutors and teachers have the opportunity to work on-site at various local schools.

Small Group Instructor/Teacher
We are seeking experienced tutors, teacher credential candidates, or fully credentialed teachers to deliver impactful small group instruction directly at school sites. In this role, you will facilitate lessons for groups of 5–15 students, focusing on multiple subjects, including Math and English Language Arts (ELA). This position requires a commitment from Monday to Friday, January 2025 through May 2025, with hours from 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM. Ideal candidates will have prior experience in tutoring or classroom instruction, be pursuing or possess a teaching credential, and demonstrate a strong passion for education and student success. Compensation ranges from $27 to $32 per hour, based on experience and qualifications. Five positions are available. Join us in making a meaningful impact on students’ learning and growth!
1:1 Tutoring Opportunity
We are seeking dedicated tutors to work with students in one-on-one settings, providing personalized support to help them succeed. This role is ideal for college students majoring in liberal arts, social work, or early childhood education. Tutors in this position primarily work with students at our center, creating a focused and supportive learning environment. Sessions are typically scheduled between 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM, with tutors committing to 8–15 hours per week. Compensation for this role ranges from $20 to $25 per hour, based on experience and qualifications. Ten positions are available. Preferred Qualifications:
- 1 to 3 years of previous experience in education, including but not limited to: Afterschool programs, substitute teacher, summer camps, tutoring, or teaching
- Ability to tutor in two or more core subjects.
- Ability to travel to multiple tutoring centers. .
- Be able to commit to a minimum of 9 months.
- Preferred majors: Mathematics, Liberal Arts, Science, CAFS
- Bilingual and multilingual candidates are encouraged to apply
Minimum Requirements
- Pass a criminal background check/live scan
- Clear Tuberculosis Test
- 48 college units or meet your university’s classification of “junior”
- Must be available 8am - 2pm or 4pm-8pm
- All tutors will be subject to vaccine requirements and COVID-19 safety standards set by Kern Tutoring and affiliate partners.
Compensation
