Join us as we digitally connect the world and shape the future.The RoleOperate Lumen’s Network as a Service (NaaS) implementation in partnership with traditional operations teams and development counterparts. Provide technical direction and resolution of systemic issues related to Lumen’s Network as a Service (NaaS) implementation across a broad range of network topologies and applications. Plan, design, and implement scalable local and wide-area network solutions between multiple platforms and protocols. Responsible for system performance, supporting/troubleshooting issues and coordinating across multiple organizations and teams. Develop tools and utilities to automate deployment, administration, investigation, and monitoring.This will require a strong understanding of Lumen’s Layer 1, Layer 2, & Layer 3 networks and products, a strong understanding of Lumen’s Edge Compute implementation, and a strong understanding of software development methodologies. This role will work across the network architecture, engineering, and systems development organizations and teams to ensure alignment to production readiness and operationalization guidance.LocationThis role is designated as a fully remote position within the United States.The Main Responsibilities

Subject Matter Expert for network automation platform applications, services, and hosting environments. Focused on core components, supports directly with expertise and escalates to responsible team but remains engaged and learns

Collaborative development and driving of new tools, utilities, and capabilities to improve support processes and efficiency. These may include solutions for observability, alerting, production code change management, and more

Ensures applications/services are always running effectively, including continuous monitoring and alerting, empowering operations and development to help manage the services efficiently

Lean in on automation of deployment pipelines (CI/CD), infrastructure provisioning, and scaling to ensure seamless performance of new deployments

Proactive incident management - investigation and resolution of service outages and unplanned downtime; proactive minimization and prevention of incident recurrence.

Participates/leads blameless retrospectives after incidents to analyze what went wrong, implement fixes, learn from the experience, and prevent future incidents through knowledge and tooling

Documentation for KB/KT/FAQ about the environments. Self-served knowledge on tap so we can “run it together”.

Documentation of standardized operational workflows to ensure adherence to requirements and dissemination best practices for production readiness and operationalization

Coach and mentor others in the business processes implemented in the team's applications, services, and workflows to provide resolution to support problems

Effectively manage and deliver multiple initiatives in parallel while maintaining ownership of keys areas of responsibility across the organization

Indirectly influence the work of others to drive production readiness and operationalization of system and service components

Effectively estimate the time it will take to perform tasks and deliver or influence the work to be completed within those timeframes

Scale solutions to meet enhanced requirements for growth, new services, or network optimization by applying approved technologies and architectures for enhancements or additions

What We Look For in a CandidateRequired Qualifications:

Bachelor’s or master’s degree or equivalent experience

10+ years of related experience in software development, systems engineering, and/or networking

Network skills are REQUIRED, previous network architecture/engineering/operations preferred

Strong understanding of network technologies including Internet, Ethernet, IPVPN, Edge Compute, and Optical transport

Strong Layer 2 knowledge of ethernet switching equipment and switching architectures used on Lumen’s Internet networks

Working level experience with protocols and standards used on Lumen’s networks such as BGP, IS-IS, MPLS, BFD, LLDP, RPKI, BMP

Strong understanding of Ansible, Python, and/or other common technologies used in network automation

Working Knowledge of:

Asynchronous programming concepts and distributed systems design

Source code repositories and continuous integration and delivery practices

Zero downtime deployment strategies

High Availability and Multi-Region architectures

OpenAPI, Swagger, and other API standards

Distributed Systems Management

Preferred Qualifications:

Strong listening and communication skills

Strong coaching and mentorship capabilities
