About the Position

As a Healthcare Technology and Cybersecurity Specialist at the Department of Health Services (DHS), you will be responsible for supporting and maintaining the security of sensitive data and systems in compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other applicable privacy and security regulations. Your primary duties will involve managing access controls, monitoring system activity, conducting vulnerability assessments, and responding to security incidents. You will work closely with various teams to ensure the confidentiality and integrity of personal health information (PHI) and personally identifiable information (PII). In addition, you will:

Develop and maintain role-based access programs and audit onboarding and offboarding processes

Identify and manage the locations of protected data within network drives and databases to ensure proper handling

Configure, manage, monitor, and/or serve as the subject matter expert on software systems

Monitor system activity on county and vendor networks for security and compliance concerns

Ensure that Mobile Device Management (MDM) remains active on assigned devices and initiate deactivation

Provide system security training to staff based on current risk analysis and security events

Advise senior management on information/data security matters

As the ideal candidate to join our team, you will be able to analyze complex security issues and resolve them efficiently and effectively. You will also possess many of the following:

Proven experience with information security, including managing access controls, vulnerability assessments, and incident response

An understanding of security principles, including role-based access, encryption, and network monitoring

Excellent communication skills to effectively convey technical issues to non-technical stakeholders

A familiarity with compliance and regulatory frameworks, such as HIPAA

The ability to act swiftly to address and resolve security incidents

An understanding of current technologies and challenges related to systems and cyber security

Familiarity with applicable software systems, such as Security Information Event Manager (SEIM), Governance/Risk/Compliance (GRC), Electronic Health Records (EHR), Crowdstrike, Nessus, KnowB4, Mobile Device Manager (MDM), and others

Note: It is highly desirable (but not required) that the ideal candidate possess an IT Security Certification such as Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), CompTIA Security+, or other recognized IT Security certifications.
