Summary:To manage support services; provide administrative support to the administrator or director; perform related work.Responsibilities:

Management: plans, organizes and directs administrative and support service activities for a department or large departmental unit; selects, trains, and directs supervisory staff and evaluates work performance; develops and directs implementation of section/bureau plans, priorities, performance standards, and procedures; coordinates support services with program services and other department, state and/or federal operations; manages budget(s) and directs preparation of financial management reports; recommends policies and ensures consistency and compliance of operations; coordinates and participates in strategic planning, monitoring, and evaluation; conducts special management studies and projects; may direct development program design and development; may direct development of program manuals and training materials; may research, analyze, and interpret state and federal laws and regulations; may recommend automated systems enhancements; may provide contracts consultation and monitor contracts; may act for the administrator/director.

Consultation: advises administrator/director in support services areas and participates as a member of the management team; investigates, troubleshoots, and resolves or recommends solutions to complex issues, inquiries, and problems; represents the organization to department management, staff, the community or other organizations.

Minimum Qualifications:

Good knowledge of management practices. Typically gained from completing at least an Associate's degree, or completion of at least four upper division college courses, in business administration, public administration, or other closely related field that included all the essential elements of management (planning, organizing, leading, and controlling); OR One year of work experience in a job situation with responsibility for all the essential elements of management.

Experience supervising staff; analyzing operational, management, or administrative problems to identify alternatives and implement solutions; allocating resources in a department or business environment; interpreting and applying laws, regulations and policies affecting department or business operations; preparing and making presentations to groups. Typically gained from at least one year of experience where responsible for interviewing and selecting staff, providing work direction and training, evaluating performance, and generating employer problem solving solutions. Include the length of time, number and level of staff supervised.

Allocating resources in a department or business environment; interpreting and applying laws, regulations and policies affecting department or business operations. Typically gained from experience allocating resources (material, financial, or staff) within a department or business, identifying appropriate resources available to meet those needs, and to appropriate the resources and to evaluate the outcome.

Preparing and making presentations to groups. Typically gained through experience researching, compiling, and organizing information in order to make oral presentations about the information to groups in a business setting; topics may be informational, technical, or behavioral. You must have experience with at least two different presentations.
