It grew out of an endowed professorship in American Indian education established in 1999 through a gift from the Indian Community School to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. We have since grown to oversee the American Indian Student Center as well as the American Indian Studies Program. We currently employ eight staff who facilitate our mission to strengthen and celebrate American Indian education at the local, regional and national level with strong connections to indigenous teaching practices around the globe.At our core, we are a research institute which promotes the flourishing of American Indian peoples, communities and environments. We are interested in research at the intersection of Indigenous languages and the practice of maintaining life-giving systems in our surroundings. We also facilitate the teaching of three Indigenous languages at UWM (Ojibwe, Potawatomi and Oneida), run two scholarship programs, an Artist in Residence Program, and support student programming.The Institute’s namesake, Electa Quinney, is recognized as Wisconsin’s first public school teacher. A member of the Stockbridge-Mohican tribe, she taught American Indian and white children in a one-room log school which opened in 1828.Job Summary EQI is searching for a Grant and Student Services Manager who will be responsible for developing, evaluating, and implementing recruitment efforts to support Native American students, at UW-Milwaukee per the goals documented in the accepted grant. This role will involve creating and managing student programs and providing training on Indigenous pedagogical perspectives. This position is responsible for supporting students to successfully complete their Education degree within the terms of the grant funding. The position will oversee financial compliance and grant management, develop partnerships, and coordinate initiatives associated with this grant. Additionally, the position includes designing and evaluating interventions, programs, and services for American Indian students supported by the grant funding and will facilitate cross-unit recruiting efforts to raise awareness and involvement in multicultural programming.This is a fixed-term appointment, with the potential for extension contingent upon additional grant funding.Work will be performed primarily on-site. Hybrid work options may be available with specifics regarding work location requirements discussed during the interview process.Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in Education, Psychology, Public Administration, Social Sciences, or a related field

At least 3 years teaching in classrooms (K through 12) with appropriate licensure (expired within 3 years) OR as administrator in K through 12 educational setting

At least 3 years of experience with Federal Grant management

Organizational and project management experience

Strong experience in using office software and tools (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite)

Experience with grant/ sponsored program offices, reporting requirements and budget rules in higher education.

Preferred Qualifications

PhD (or ABD ) in Education, Public Administration, Social Sciences, or a related field

5 or more years of experience in program management, preferably within an academic setting

Experience working with Department of Education and Office of Indian Education grants

Experience working with a web-based financial reporting system such as WISER

Experience working with diverse populations, particularly Indigenous communities

Strong engagement with Indigenous Education and documented community commitment

Target Salary Range $55,000 to $75,000/annually (Salary will be determined by finalist's experience, training, education, and equity-based factors.)
