The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a vital role in providing assistance and support to individuals with disabilities or special needs. This position focuses on enhancing the quality of life for residents by promoting independence, dignity, and respect. The DSP will work closely with clients to assist them in daily living activities, ensuring their safety and well-being while fostering a supportive environment.

Responsibilities

Assist clients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and meal preparation.

Provide personal care and support in accordance with individual care plans.

Monitor client health by observing vital signs and reporting any changes to the appropriate healthcare professionals.

Uphold resident rights and ensure a respectful and dignified approach to care.

Engage clients in meaningful activities that promote social interaction and cognitive stimulation.

Maintain accurate documentation of client progress and any incidents as required by HIPAA regulations.

Collaborate with healthcare teams to implement care strategies tailored to individual needs, including those related to dementia care or other specific conditions.

Support clients in navigating their daily routines while encouraging independence and self-sufficiency.

Qualifications

Experience in home care, assisted living, or working with individuals with disabilities is preferred.

Knowledge of resident rights and the importance of maintaining confidentiality under HIPAA guidelines.

Familiarity with patient observation techniques and the ability to recognize changes in client conditions.

Understanding of dementia care principles is a plus.

Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with clients and their families.

Compassionate demeanor with a commitment to providing high-quality care.

Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Certification in CPR/First Aid is desirable but not mandatory.

This role is essential for creating a nurturing environment that empowers individuals to live fulfilling lives while receiving the support they need.
