Position InformationProposed Faculty Rank Assistant ProfessorDepartment 00085 - CommunicationCity Salt Lake City, UTTrack Non Tenure TrackNew Position to Begin 7/1/25DetailsThe Department of Communication at the University of Utah invites applications for an Assistant Professor (Lecturer) in-person position in Strategic Communication effective July 1, 2025.Strategic Communication is the most popular emphasis in the Department of Communication at the University of Utah, and we expect student interest in both the existing major and the new strategic communication minor will grow. Undergraduates in Strategic Communication learn concepts and hone skills in public relations, advertising, marketing, branding, organizational communication, and campaign design/evaluation. A lecturer position at the University of Utah is fully integrated into the department, appointed for multi-year renewable contracts, and eligible for promotion.The successful candidate will provide leadership in the design and delivery of the undergraduate program, advise undergraduate student organizations related to strategic communication (e.g., PRSSA ), strengthen relationships with local, national, and international partners, and foster internship opportunities. Candidates must be an excellent teacher dedicated to cultivating informed and ethical students who are ready to enter the workforce as well-prepared professionals. The standard annual teaching load for non-tenure track lecturers in the Department of Communication is 3/3 (three courses in the fall and three courses in the spring). The successful candidate must be willing to teach courses such as: Introduction to Strategic Communication, PR Cases & Campaigns, Writing for Strategic Communication, Visual Editing, Principles of Advertising, Advertising Media Analysis and Planning, Media and Society, Media Writing, Integrated Marketing Communication, Mass Communication Law, Media Ethics, and/or the Capstone Experience in Strategic Communication. A strong preference will be given to candidates exploring uses of AI in their classrooms.Successful candidates for the position should have either a master’s degree with extensive professional strategic communication experience (e.g., public relations, advertising, and/or marketing) and/or a PhD in Communication or a related discipline with a strong background in teaching.Applicants must submit a letter of interest; CV; teaching statement and evidence of teaching effectiveness; examples of professional work and/or a writing sample; and the names of three references.
