Reports To: Administrative/HR Manager (or designee)

Location: Islamorada, Florida

Organization Description:

Founded in 1998, Shrimp Improvement Systems (SIS) produces genetically improved and Specific Pathogen Free P vannamei shrimp broodstock and has initiated the breeding of P monodon and P stylirostris. The organization consists of a Nucleus Breeding Center, production tanks, hatchery and administrative buildings, and has proven to be ideal for both shrimp breeding and broodstock multiplication. Shrimp Improvement Systems is one of the leading producers of SPF vannamei in the worldwide shrimp aquaculture industry.

Job Description:

As a key member of the SIS team, the Purchasing Associate plays an important role in the daily operations of the organization. Under the supervision of the Admin/HR Manager (or designee), this position is responsible for sourcing and procuring goods and services on behalf of the organization. This position is also responsible for providing back up coverage for logistics related to shipments in the absence of the Logistics Coordinator.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

1. Perform all duties accurately and according to SIS Procedures and Protocols, specifically a well-informed understanding and implementation of the purchasing policies.

2. Maintain positive and professional relationship with other employees and vendors.

3. Process purchase requests from managers in a timely manner to procure supplies that are critical for the daily operations of the company.

4. Track current vendors and contact information, as well as identifying and evaluating other potential vendors and negotiate pricing.

5. Implement the company purchasing policies and work with department managers to distribute orders and ensure manager approval for goods received. Coordinate with finance to ensure all purchases are documented.

6. Monitor supply levels, forecast demand and manage inventory to optimize costs and prevent shortages.

7. Perform logistics support duties as assigned to provide back-up support to the Logistics Coordinator.

8. Assist with ensuring office is kept clean and organized at all times.

9. Keep all records organized and filed according to regulations and/or office procedures including cost analysis to identify and recommend cost saving opportunities.

10. Complete reports as required to demonstrate purchasing activity, inventory levels and cost saving measures/recommendations in a timely manner.

11. Maintain confidentiality of company proprietary information.

Required Education and Experience:

1. Minimum of a high school diploma or a GED.

2. Minimum 2 years of purchasing experience.

3. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other office suite programs.

4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills; demonstrated ability to negotiate and problem solve.

5. Excellent English, written and verbal, skills required. Spanish a plus but not required.

Physical Requirements:

1. Ability to work 25 hours per week

2. Ability to lift or carry up to 20 - 30 lbs.

3. Ability to work with and around chemicals such as bleach and acid, following all safety guidelines.
