PCA/Direct Support Worker
Putnam
Searching for a direct support worker for my 21-year-old son in my home. My son has a severe seizure disorder, autism, ID, and is nonverbal. He is generally very happy, and good-natured, but he can have behaviors at times if he isn't feeling well. (this typically means he will hit himself or squeeze your hands). He functions on an infant level and needs constant attention due to safety issues and seizures.
I am seeking a person to add to our care team - looking to fill 10 hours a week to start (Monday, Wednesday, Friday 5-7PM, Saturdays 9-1 PM OR 1-5 PM). More hours available on school vacations if desired, and possibility for more permanent hours in the future.
You must be able to fulfill the duties of the position, which requires you to have physical strength to keep him from falling hard onto the floor. He wears a harness that must be held onto anytime he is ambulatory. You must be in good overall health. The right candidate should have an easy-going personality, possess empathy and compassion, and be able to take over my role completely while you are here. You will be required to do all ADLs for my son (dressing, feeding, changing pull ups, showering and transfers) , he uses a wheelchair at times.
Some things my son enjoys: cause and effect toys, holding hands, sometimes loud musical toys he will play with over and over, you must be able to tolerate that. He enjoys back and forth interaction, & looking at himself in the mirror & likes watching preschool shows.
We discourage the use of cell phones. You most likely won't get a break while here, so please plan accordingly. We have cameras in our home for our son's safety and your protection.
You will be trained in how to handle seizures, how to identify them, what you need to do and what is or isn't a true emergency. You may be required to administer emergency rescue medications. This position is for a "take charge" type of personality, and someone who isn't afraid to handle medical issues. You do not need experience, but you must be willing to learn, possess common sense, and follow my instructions.
You need to have your own reliable vehicle to get to and from our house. A professional attitude, knowing how to dress/act appropriately for this position & reliability is a must.
The starting pay is $26 per hour, and after 90 days of successful employment, there will be a substantial pay increase up to $35/hr. My son requires lifelong care so we are seeking someone who can be with us long term. Hoping for a 6-12 month commitment, at least.
You will get paid through our Fiscal Intermediary (GT Independence), which requires filling out an application, passing a background check, and doing online paid training (you have up to 90 days to submit training).
If you got this far & are interested please send me a message so we can talk
