System Operations Manager | Electric Utility Leadership | Northern Vermont | Cooperative

Lead a critical team ensuring power reliability for 33,000 Vermont households and businesses while driving innovation in electric distribution technology.

Vermont Electric Cooperative (VEC) is seeking a skilled Manager of System Operations to join our team in Johnson, Vermont. The System Operations team is our control center operations group, using SCADA and other technology to ensure dependable service reliability for our 33,000 members across Northern Vermont. The ideal candidate leads by example in their commitment to safe, reliable energy while exhibiting excellent communication, collaboration, and supervision skills in electric grid operations. It is rare to have two identical days in this utility management role.

We are looking for someone who can develop and document technical procedures, offer further training and development to a high-performing and passionate team, and work with many internal and external departments to ensure VEC is executing our mission safely and with member service always front of mind. We also need this manager to be a change leader, understanding and helping develop safe and secure adoption of the rapidly changing technology advancements in the utility industry. This role involves selecting, coaching, and developing team members, as well as collaborating with various departments and external agencies. The manager will serve as Compliance Planner, ensuring VEC's adherence to regulatory requirements from agencies such as FERC, NERC/CIP, ISO-NE, NPCC, and Vermont PUC/DPS.

This role involves review of contracts, identifying opportunities to better meet VEC's financial and strategic requirements, and making recommendations for implementation. Project management experience is highly desirable. Planned and unplanned off-hours work, such as for storms, is required and expected.

Required Qualifications:

B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent

Five (5) years of electrical utility or comparable experience, or a combination of education and experience.

Ability to read a one line

Strongly preferred:

Working knowledge of ISO-New England Operating Procedures and NERC Reliability Standards

Familiarity with industry-specific software such as NISC, Mapview, Milsoft, ArcGis, and AutoCAD is desirable.

Benefits and location:

The salary range for this position is $120,000-$130,000 per year commensurate with experience and ability.
