The position: We are seeking to fill a Grounds Maintenance Lead Worker position. Under the general supervision of the Grounds Maintenance Supervisor, coordinate and lead the day-to-day activities of assigned staff performing a variety of grounds maintenance activities including tree, turf, and shrub bed care, irrigation, and designed repairs. Prioritize and guide the work of assigned staff, record project completion and hours worked by staff. Assist assigned staff in the performance of all duties. The ideal candidate has:

Grounds installation, maintenance and renovation procedures and practices.

Supervisory skills and practices.

Proper use of grounds keeping equipment and vehicles.

Safety rules and regulations applicable to area of work.

Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's License and fully insurable driving record.

Washington Pesticide Applicator Commercial Operator's license with ornamental, insect and disease control, and ornamental weed control endorsements.

What will you do?

1. Plan, schedule, coordinate and participate in the day-to-day work assignments for assigned staff involved in landscape maintenance, renovation or installation projects

2. Lead staff in the use and operation of power equipment, such as riding and push lawn mowers, blowers, weed eaters, hedge trimmers, edgers, sod cutters, lawn aerators, 4-wheel all purpose vehicles, pickups, and dump trucks

3. Instruct staff on the use of tools and equipment and provide expert advice; provide employee performance information to Grounds Supervisor

4. Perform routine landscaping such as mowing, aerating, trimming, pruning, weeding and watering turf, flowers, shrubbery and trees. Spread bark, gravel, and soil.

5. Install specified components and maintain automatic ground sprinkler systems

6. Ensure the timely and safe removal of paper, trash, and debris from facilities and grounds

7. Ensure that all safety and health rules, standards and procedures are observed. Conduct monthly inspections of work areas and practices to eliminate potentially hazardous conditions. Arrange for and/or conduct and ensure that accident investigations are conducted and formally reported on the same day, or within the next workday of when the accident occurred. Monitor and enforce the agency's Safety and Health Program.
