GENERAL NATURE & SCOPE OF WORK
Under the direction of the Sewer Department Supervisor, performs a variety of entry to mid-level work in the installation, maintenance and repair of the Districts’ sewer system. Operate a wide variety of hand and power tools and equipment used to maintain and repair sewer mains and laterals.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Installation, maintenance and repair of the Districts’ sewer system equipment and facilities; assist with repairs to pump stations or
treatment plants as needed.
Perform CCTV inspection of mainlines and laterals; utilize mainline and lateral cameras; operate the truck mounted or laptop
computer to record data related to pipe type, size, depth, cracks, roots and other related concerns; download data to desk-top
computer.
Operate a variety or vehicles, specialized equipment and hand and power tools, including high velocity cleaning/vacuum truck,
portable pumps, rodder, power saws, backhoe, and shoring and compaction equipment.
Install, raise and repair manholes; replace metal rings and covers as necessary.
Clean and root cut sewer lines; remove debris with vacuum truck or other equipment; replace pipe when necessary; dye and
smoke test lines; install and maintain flow meters.
Mow and trim grass, prune shrubs and remove debris around District facilities and manholes.
Respond to public questions and concerns regarding odors, rats, sewer line breaks, sewer line backups and other incidents; remain
on call for emergency situations.
Perform excavations and repairs; utilize appropriate shoring and safety equipment; install road plates if needed, backfill, compact
and asphalt road cuts.
Maintain routine records and reports of work performed, including equipment usage, preventive maintenance and needed repairs.
Assist Treatment Plants and Office with projects as necessary, including snow and ice removal.
Assist Operations or Maintenance personnel in emergencies as needed.
Perform related duties as assigned.

Read and understand plans for new construction, replacement or rehabilitation of sewer lines, and As-Built drawings.
Materials, methods and tools used in the construction, operation and maintenance of a domestic wastewater collection system.
Methods and practices of preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and diagnosis of equipment malfunction.
Standards and techniques used in the operation and maintenance of sewer facilities and related equipment.
Maintenance and repair of basic sewer equipment.
Operation and maintenance of hand and power tools and specialized equipment used in sewer maintenance and repair.

ABILITY TO:
Perform a variety of work in the maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and replacement of equipment used in the District’s
wastewater collection system.
Inspect, adjust, repair and replace mechanical and electrical units and related parts of collection system equipment.
Read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
Determine appropriate action within clearly defined guidelines.
Operate and maintain a variety of power tools and equipment, including high velocity pipe cleaners, CCTV equipment, back-hoe,
specialized tools, saws, rigging and lifting equipment, forklift and others.
Inspect facilities and equipment for maintenance and repair needs; and for fire, safety and health hazards.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school, or any combination of education and experience which demonstrates competency.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Washington Class I Collection Operator certificate, within one year of hire.
Valid Class B Washington State Commercial driver’s license, with airbrake and tanker endorsement, within six months of hire.
First-aid/CPR, Forklift, Flagger Certification, confined space, etc, within six months of hire.
