Sailing School Fleet Service Crew Chief
Award-winning Modern Sailing School & Club is hiring a Fleet Service Crew Chief for our Berkeley location. Modern Sailing is the largest sailing school in the San Francisco Bay Area, with a fleet of sailboats in Sausalito and Berkeley, ranging from 24’ to 44’ and including 3 catamarans. We offer American Sailing Association certification courses, sailboat charters, corporate regattas, and global destination sails. The Fleet Service team prepares the fleet each day for on-the-water activities and repairs them when they return. The Fleet Service Crew Chief directs the efforts of our Fleet Service Technicians to ensure a vibrant fleet of sailboats.
The Fleet Service Crew Chief position is a full-time, 5 day a week role based out of our Berkeley office, Tuesday-Saturday or Friday-Tuesday, 8am to 5pm.
JOB SUMMARY:
Working in Berkeley, the Fleet Service Crew Chief directs the effort of the Fleet Service Technicians to maintain a reliable, safe, and attractive fleet of sailboats. The Crew Chief also works with our customers, boat owners, instructors, office team to keep the fleet in service and on the water.
General Areas of Responsibility :
Team coordinator: Work with the Fleet Service Team to get it all done
Charter Readiness: Ensure boats are ready for customers to charter
Activity Readiness: Prepare boats for upcoming special activities (multi-day courses, races, offshore trips, etc.)
Rapid Turnaround: Assess, clean, and prepare boats between charters
Customer Service: Assist customers when necessary. Troubleshoot issues, help locate charter items, secure replacement items for missing or broken items.
General Services: Direct the team's effort to complete weekly checklist for all boats in the fleet: refueling, filling freshwater tanks, holding tank pump-out, and interior and exterior cleaning of all boats
Sails and Rigging: Repairs and/or changes as needed

Ideal Candidate
Self-motivated, has a positive attitude and highly organized
Skilled in sailboat maintenance and has additional experience in one or more of our specialty areas
Team oriented and experienced with MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook), Google Sheets and Google Forms, online file storage including Box
Knows how to sail or is interested in learning more about sailing
Compensation will be based on relevant experience ($26- $29/hour).
