Personal Care Assistant
We are seeking a compassionate and reliable person to provide in-home care and support for our dad Edward “Ned” living with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). The position consists of assisting with activities of daily living, self-care routines, toileting, grooming, and general companionship to ensure Ned’s comfort, safety, and well-being. Ned lives with our mother in an upscale condo/home without any pets.
EXAMPLES OF THERAPY AND ACTIVITIES FOR DAILY LIVING:
Continued mobility therapy and training with use of home aids (wheelchair, walker, sit/stand exercise)
Transfers from recliner to wheelchair, wheelchair to toilet and back (basic toilet care and support)
Support and assistance with potential kitchen activities which may include standing (fridge, dishes, etc.)
Any walking exercise that Ned may be up for during visits
Note - Ned has vertigo/dizziness issues when standing which will take consideration during activities
SELF-CARE:
Assisting with hygiene, teeth brushing, sanitary wipe cleaning of upper body, topical ointments
Change of clothing, compression socks, etc.
Assistance with on/off of toilet (bathroom has a bidet and grab bars for assistance training)
Medication assistance, schedule (reminders), self-assessment and discussions “how are you feeling” etc.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
Occasional snack/meal preparation
Potentially light housekeeping
RELATED SKILLS AND TRAINING
Knowledge of safe transfers and mobility practices (Ned has back and neck pain and complications)
Strong communication skills
Empathy and compassion
Physical ability to perform the tasks
The ideal candidate would be someone in training for PT, OT or Nursing, but not necessary. If you are passionate about home care, friendly, kind, professional, have the physical ability to assist with walking, sitting and transfers, have a flexible schedule, and can provide references, then we'd like to hear from you! Experience with home care is preferred, but not mandatory. Compensation is negotiable based on availability and experience.
