Canlis Dining Room Manager
We are:
A (nearly) 75 year old restaurant in search of a new Dining Room Manager. Our current Management team is made up of about 20 of the most hardworking, talented, and passionate folks in this industry. Our service team is a fabulous mix of people who are both new to the industry and seasoned vets; all of whom love hospitality and learning. Together, we work really hard to deliver an incredible dining experience to about 160 guests a night, and occasionally throw a killer party for a few hundred.
You are:
A lover of coaching and teaching, self-aware while also other-centered, proud of who you’ve already become and nowhere near done learning, you hit your stride in the second half of your day, quick moving (yet ever graceful), efficient in the Google workspace, a stickler for the details, collaborative, a fan of a good party, willing to embrace and work through conflict, not afraid to admit your mistakes, clear and effective at giving feedback, competitive at the NYT mini crossword and Jeopardy (not officially a requirement but certainly doesn’t hurt), resourceful, someone who takes initiative, and are adaptable.
The nature of this role is that at any given time, four different people will be asking something of you; you’re the right fit if you have the grace to meet all of their requests with “yes”, and the drive to then go get it done. Restaurant experience is mostly recommended, but not absolutely necessary if you find that the rest of these qualifications sound like you.
The details:
Generally speaking, we are closed on Sundays and Mondays and your schedule is Tuesday-Saturday nights; our days open can vary based on the time of year. In time varies between noon and 2:30 PM, depending on scheduled meetings; out time varies between 10:30 PM and 1:30 AM depending on service that night. You’ll close once a week and we try our best to have a four day work week every other week for Dining Room Managers.
Compensation is based on experience and potential, and ranges from $78,000 and $90,000. You’ll receive an annual clothing stipend for $600-$750; PTO accrued based on tenure at Canlis, to be used for vacation or sick leave; 100% covered medical, vision, dental, and life insurance (75% for dependents and 0% for spouses); a 401k program that matches 75% up to 8% of your pay; and the dining perk of 50% off food and all beverage when you dine and a comped annual dinner for two guests (food only).
To apply, submit a resume and cover letter to work@canlis.com. Your letter should describe a bit about who you are and why Canlis may be a good fit. We recommend visiting our careers page (https://canlis.com/careers) to familiarize yourself with our unique mission and culture. Be specific, and feel free to have fun with it!
