Staff Accountant
Aim Higher Inc. is seeking a Staff Accountant to join their growing organization. Our organization works with adults with developmental disabilities with centers throughout California.
A staff accountant is responsible for preparing and maintaining financial records, including account reconciliations, by performing general accounting duties like data entry, tracking assets and liabilities, generating financial reports, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards, typically reporting to a senior accountant or controller; requiring strong attention to detail and accuracy in managing financial information.
Key responsibilities of a staff accountant:
Financial record keeping: Maintaining accurate records of all financial transactions including accounts payable, receivable, and general ledger entries.
Account reconciliations: Regularly reconciling bank statements and other accounts to ensure accuracy of financial data.
Financial reporting: Preparing and analyzing various financial reports like balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
Payroll processing: Assisting with payroll calculations and tax deductions.
Data entry: Inputting financial data into accounting software.
Compliance with accounting standards: Adhering to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other relevant regulations.
Internal controls: Maintaining and monitoring internal controls to safeguard company assets.
Budgeting: Assisting with budget preparation and tracking expenses against budget
Tax preparation: Preparing and filing tax returns as needed
Auditing support: Assisting with external audit processes by providing necessary documentation Required skills for a staff accountant:
Strong attention to detail: Critical for accuracy in data entry and reconciliation
Analytical skills: Ability to analyze financial data and identify trends
Proficiency in accounting software: Familiarity with accounting software like QuickBooks or SAP
Excellent communication skills: To effectively communicate financial information to stakeholders
Organizational skills: To manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively
Knowledge of accounting principles: Understanding of GAAP and basic accounting concepts Education and experience:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
Entry-level accounting experience preferred
Professional certifications like CPA (Certified Public Accountant) may be beneficial for career advancement
