Job Overview

Amaya’s is seeking a passionate and skilled full time General Bakery Assistant / Cake decorator to join our team. As a general bakery assistant / cake decorator, you will create delicious pastries, cakes, and more, and fulfill our mission to bring joy to the Oak Harbor and greater Whidbey Island community through food, service, and drinks!

The ideal candidate will assist in the preparation, baking, and decorating of a wide range of pastries, cakes and other baked goods, to be served in the shop, take out orders, by special order, and for community events. This position is perfect for someone looking to work and gain experience in a team oriented, retail baking environment.

Requirements:

Key Responsibilities:

Assist in the daily operations of the bakery in our commercial kitchen, supporting the production of high-quality baked goods.

Help with the preparation and baking of a variety of pastries and other bakery items.

Ensure all products meet our high standards for quality and consistency.

Follow recipes and bakery procedures while contributing to new menu items and seasonal offerings.

Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient workspace, adhering to health and safety standards.

Assist with inventory management, including the ordering and receiving of supplies.

Collaborate with the owner and principal baker, and team to ensure timely delivery of baked goods in the shop, for take out orders, special orders, and community events.

Provide support to other areas of the kitchen as needed, demonstrating flexibility and teamwork.

Perform additional duties and tasks as assigned by the supervisor, adapting to operational needs.

Qualifications:

Previous experience in retail bakery or food service environment or culinary education is preferred.

Minimum 1 year experience with cake preparation and decorating.

Previous experience with Toast, or other POS system

Experience with making Espresso drinks.

Strong understanding of cooking methods, ingredients, equipment, and procedures.

A passion for food and commitment to excellence.

A passion for baking and a desire to learn and grow in the field.

Understanding of baking techniques, ingredients, and equipment.

Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.

Ability to follow instructions and work efficiently under pressure.

Good organizational and time-management skills.

Ability to stand for extended periods and lift 25 lbs or other heavy items when necessary.

Flexibility to work early mornings, weekends, some evenings, and holidays as needed.

Ability to obtain food handlers permit within 14 days of hire.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $16.50 - $18.00 per hour
