Salary Range:
$40,000.00 To $45,000.00 Annually
Branching Up Assistant Instructor
The PHS Assistant Instructor position will directly support the Workforce Development Team and the Branching Up training program, which is a partnership with PHS and Temple University. This role will require up to 40 hours each week, in-person, at the George Hill Correctional Facility. The Assistant Instructor will provide onsite support to two cohorts of up to 15 participants per year for a total of 30 trainees annually. This is a 2-year, grant funded position.
PHS will be returning to our previous work of providing training and job readiness skills to individuals currently incarcerated through the Delaware County George Hill Correctional Facility. This role will work closely with other team support, such as Case Management and Job Readiness coaches from Temple University. Participants will train with PHS staff for 12 weeks while incarcerated, as they prepare for careers once released. Following successful completion of our curriculum and post-release, trainees will then be offered an 8-week On-The-Job training experience (internship) led by Branching Up Lead & Assistant Instructors.
Provide day-to-day instruction and support of program at George Hill Correctional Facility
Prepare trainees for proficiency in: landscaping techniques, tree tending basics and general land care skills
Provide high quality curriculum delivery to up to 15 trainees per cohort (2 cohorts/year)
Assist with all trainee onboarding with PHS Workforce & HR teams
Track daily attendance
Secure/inventory all program equipment on a day-to-day basis, in compliance with prison regulations
Participate in weekly/monthly/quarterly meetings with PHS, Temple University & Delaware County programming staff.
Assist Lead Instructor with ensure compliance to contracts, reporting and resolving partner questions and concerns, as needed.
Make recommendations for OTJ phase and coordinate start date/location with trainee and partnering companies
Maintain, service & transport training equipment, as needed
Ability to model professional communication and reinforce job readiness skills, such as time management, growth mindset and being a team player
Key Skills
A minimum of 3- years of proficiency in landscaping, or tree tending skills, such as: operating & maintaining various mowers, string trimmers, chainsaws, pole saws, tree plantings, etc.
Landscaping experience required
Provide trauma informed leadership to staff and trainees
Understanding of the needs of Returning Citizens and how job readiness contributes to reduced rates of recidivism
Ability to be onsite at George Hill between the hours of 8am – 4pm, Monday - Friday
Valid driver’s license and ability to pass PHS driver’s clearance
