Looking for IHSS provider with experience and heart
Looking for part-time in home care for my aunt and uncle who are in their late 80s. This could be during the week or on the weekends and last minute calls when the other provider isn't able to make it. Must be registered as an IHSS provider in Santa Clara County. The current pay for a provider is $20.04/hr. Ideally a woman since you'll be working with my aunt more and the tasks are more domestic. Have grounded and steady energy.
My aunt and uncle are both great people and low key. They are Korean and speak English well. You don't have to be a Korean speaker. Just need to have experience, patience and compassion.
Uncle: Amazing man with lots of stories to tell. He's a bit more limited in his mobility, rests a lot, gets dizzy if he stands up too fast, but still goes for a walk at least once a day, sometimes two on a good day. You'll need to do the walk with him and keep an eye on him.
Aunt: Intelligent and health conscious. She loves her carrot juice in the morning, which you'll be helping her with. With her it'll mainly be doing house chores that she has a harder time with- cleaning, laundry, organizing, etc. She speaks and understands well but less then her husband. She would love to have someone practice her English with.
Duties for the position includes:
-helping around the house with cleaning and organizing
-a plus if you cook (they're mainly pescatarian, eat Korean food, willing to try different things but my uncle is diabetic)
-taking my uncle out for a walk in the area
-driving to get groceries and prescription
-driving one or both for doctor visits
-helping uncle with personal care as needed
-having a car would be great
-may make phone calls for them to help navigate the medical system for appointments and questions they have
Experiences:
-you've worked with senior care before
-be punctual, consistent and reliable
-good communicator
-cooking skills a bonus
-able to lift heavy items
-good driver
The hiring process would include a phone interview to go over the role and questions, and an in-person meeting with them to make sure its a fit. If we proceed, I'll be training you on their routine for a few days until it feels like you're in a good flow.
