seeking KITCHEN MANAGER/CHEF for restaurant + catering operation in VT
housing can be facilitated and possible relocation assistance can be negotiated
TRAIL BREAK taps + tacos is looking to add to our team in a BIG way! Come be a part of a VERY popular and dynamic company that is continually trying to meet demand on both sides of the business model (our restaurant and our food truck catering).
Want to work HARD for six months a year and take the other six months off? Strive to become an integral part of a successful and expanding operation? Interested in a company that presents the potential for partnership and encourages creativity? Hoping to work in a kitchen environment that is not made up of the 'typical' bad-apple candidates that often create unnecessary strain in an inherently stressful environment? Excited to be HANDS ON at the restaurant and also to work plenty of epic food truck events? Read on!
The best candidates will bring the following:
- ENERGY: the ability and drive to work in a fast-paced environment, willing to jump in wherever necessary in order to facilitate success throughout the BOH and beyond.
- CREATIVITY: we are ready to collaborate with someone who is excited to explore new menu options! Weekly specials (the 'dizzy' taco provides a great rotating taco place-holder on our menu to test out new ideas), new catering appetizers, desserts, reevaluating current menu itemsand more! Our guests are fanatic about our core menu offerings but are ALWAYS equally stoked to try something new!
- EXPERIENCE: ideally 2+ years of management with a history of additional lead roles within a kitchen. Ordering, menu planning, and food costing are all essential skills. Equally important is the ability to lead and COACH a team. Catering experience is a HUGE bonus but not required.
- FLEXIBILITY: it's the hospitality industry! Schedules can be soft-set but might change here and there based on the needs of the operation. We are NOT looking for an 'executive chef'/pencil pusher we ARE looking for a hands-on candidate who is ready to take on a mix of administrative and front-line tasks (ordering, inventory, planning, food prep, catering/food truck lead shifts and possibly some fill-in line shifts as needed).
- LONG-TERM FOCUS: we've been around for 7 years but still cannot meet demand! There is room to grow with the company and to potentially become an equity partner within a season or two. Benefits include 401k, PTO, company loan program, friends/family meals and more!
- ATTITUDE (the right kind): we foster a team-oriented work place. Each year we employ a variety of individuals, from hospitality industry veterans to high school kids starting their first job. We also employ international students who are EAGER to learn and to contribute. We do not have room for ego in our busy kitchen.
- DESIRE FOR WORK/LIFE BALANCE: this is a SEASONAL position that still presents a COMPETITIVE SALARY as compared to similar year-round positions. Pay will be based on experience and number of hours you are comfortable working each week. Want to grind it out in the summer and then take the winter off? Interested in working a moderate amount of hours for six months and then work part time for the other six months (we can get you a position at a number of other restaurants in this area)? Let's chat! (if you've made it this far into the description, thank you for taking time to read about and understand who we are looking for - mention 'guac and roll' in your application email so we know you pay attention to details!)
