Hiring creative person for multiple tasks at a new headphone company
Hi,
I’m starting a headphone company and need another person to help with various tasks.
TLDR ideal person would:
-assemble headphones with care
-3D print parts
-use CAD to design parts
-Help designing and solving problems ie creative work
-measure headphones and iems using a measurement rig that I have (see below) (easy if you are computer literate/savvy)
-Other things needed like researching for materials, etc
First, some background:
This is the early stages of this company, I’m preparing the release of multiple models right now. I have plans to hopefully expand this company into something bigger and more solid with more predictable sales (not Sennheiser, still niche and boutique, but consistent, large sales volume). Just keep in mind that you’d be starting with me at the beginning. I am confident this company will succeed for many reasons including almost entirely very positive feedback about my headphones so far. So work will be part time or more accurately sort of “as needed” right now, but could easily turn into a full time job when things expand. I could send you a link to my website and explain more about the company and this job would partly be an investment into something really great in the near future.
Second bit of background:
I have a severe chronic illness that severely limits my energy. I have been able to design and make almost everything I have dreamed or imagined so far, but I do not have the energy to make production units myself. And there are ideas I would like to try that I don’t have the energy or skill set for.
So I’m looking for someone to help with production and also add skill sets to my company.
More specifically, I’m looking for:
The first and most important job would be headphone and iem (iems are like wired AirPods and mine sound much better of course) assembly. This is repetitive, but fun for the right person. It involves hand cutting materials and being very careful working around extremely delicate drivers. (Don’t worry you will not be penalized for mistakes, that’s part of my company’s cost, though they are expensive mistakes). You would be responsible for making sure parts are cut evenly and installed correctly. And then listening to the headphones and measuring them to make sure they sound right.
I would love to find someone who would like to do more than that though and help me make creative ideas a reality, but also possibly contribute ideas of your own.
I would like to start assembling a team to make the best headphones on earth.
So I would love someone who also:
-Has experience with 3D printing
-Experience with CAD and drawing up new ideas for parts to then be 3D printed or machined by a shop, and can be creative and crafty in how to make these designs and contribute.
-Help solve problems or help with ideas for design or assembly. I’m always thinking about how to make my headphones better and there are always challenges.
-Learn how to use this MINI DSP EARS measuring rig and be in charge of measuring headphones. I need to weed out bad drivers for my iem models, and I would like to also provide every customer with a handmade FR graph of their specific headphone. It should be simple to figure out for the right person. Here's a link to the Mini DSP ears measurement rig you would use and which I own:

-Help me with other things that I don’t have the energy for, this could really be anything from research to design to finding materials or vendors for materials, etc.
(This job DOES NOT entail any help with anything to do with caregiving or my illness, that is covered elsewhere)
I would like someone who is interested in this job and would be the sort of person who makes things happen. I really need that. I don’t want to have to take up yet another battle with you to get things done, so I want initiative.
Perks of the job:
-You would get to keep the 3D printer at your office/home and use for personal projects (not for your own separate commercial use).
-You would likely get a high end headphone setup to keep at your place so you understand my headphone’s sound better, or at least borrow one at first
-Aside from headphone assembly, there is a lot of room for creative input and creative work here that would be a lot of fun for the right person.
Again, I would ideally like to find someone who is interested in making headphones and would like to be part of a team, not just fulfill a job position.
Hourly pay right now at $35-$40/hour but if things work out with you, that would expand if/when things become more predictable when I start selling headphones. This is TBD of course.
Please respond to this ad with some information about yourself, whatever you want, or think will help me understand you. I will not respond to one sentence emails. I’m sorry, I know this craigslist process is a lot of work and sending personalized responses is a lot of work, but I need to get a feel for who you are. I’m looking for a specific kind of person here, not just a worker bee.
I will also not respond to “is this job still available?” emails.
I’m looking for this and whatever else you want to tell me in a response. Make it personal. I am attracted to emails that feel human.
-Why you would be good at headphone assembly with precision and care
-Why you would be good at 3D printing parts and CAD drawing new parts from ideas or sketches that I have (and contributing your own ideas)
-Assurance you would be able to measure headphones and do research to learn how to do it reliably
-Why your addition to my team would make things happen, that you would have ideas and if I needed help you would help, whatever it is, for example researching something about an aspect of headphone design or finding a vendor for a material, or thinking about how to solve a problem with design or assembly, whatever comes up that is needed
This is a pretty one time opportunity for the right kind of person, and if that is you, I want to know who you are.
If you seem like a good fit, I’ll respond with plenty of information about my headphone company, me as a person, my illness (I am a world famous advocate for this illness and there are articles about me all over the internet, you’d be hard pressed to to find someone who you could learn more about by looking online).
We can then setup a call if it sounds like a good fit.
Me and my coworker will help with training for the headphone assembly. It is easy work if you are handy and rewarding making beautiful pieces that will be loved by our customers.
Thanks!
