Advocate Training Coordinator Job Description

Job Summary

The Advocate Training Coordinator helps people with disabilities live independently by providing support and connecting them with important services. This includes working with families in their preferred language while respecting their culture. The coordinator helps find housing, benefits, transportation, personal care, medical services, jobs, education, and more.

Requirements

Education and Experience:

Associate (AA) degree in Human Services OR at least three years of experience helping people with disabilities get services.

Skills:

Good communication skills (speaking and writing).

Can write well with proper spelling and grammar.

Can organize and keep records.

Open to taking instructions from supervisors.

Comfortable giving presentations.

Knows how to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.).

Must have a car, a valid driver’s license, and car insurance.

Main Job Duties

Meet with people to understand their needs and make a plan to help them.

Set goals and timelines to make sure they get the right services.

Work with families to connect them to housing, benefits, assistive devices, and other services.

Create and provide training to help people reach their goals.

Give people a copy of their plan and check in with them to track progress.

Help people apply for benefits like Social Security, Medi-Cal, Medicare, and food assistance.

Assist in finding safe and affordable housing.

Support and advocate for people to get the services they need.

Provide emotional support and guidance.

Build good relationships with community organizations and service providers.

Stay updated on laws and programs to help guide people and their families.

Help with applications and appeals if needed.

Keep records of all referrals and services provided.

Organize paperwork and track progress reports.

Represent the organization by educating the community about services for people with disabilities.

Help bilingual consumers when needed.

Attend staff meetings, trainings, and community events.

Help with CalFresh applications and presentations.

Perform other tasks as needed.

Keep clear and accurate records.

Teach people using different methods that work best for them (demonstrations, pictures, preferred language).

Follow all safety rules, including emergency drills.

Dress professionally at work.

Stay involved with consumers to make sure they get the help they need.

Attend all required meetings and trainings.

Keep professional relationships with consumers, coworkers, and caregivers.

Keep all consumer information private.

Follow the company’s rules on attendance and being on time.

Keep files and records organized and updated.

Support the Program Manager with any needed tasks.
