Job Description (Basics)

Pay: $40 - $80 / hr (depending on skills/experience)

Hours: Flexible, but coverage needed for the following hours, 7 days per week. (We're expecting to need multiple caregivers.)

Day: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Overnight: 9:00 pm - 5:00 am

Experience: 7+ years preferred

License: RN preferred, skilled LPN/LVN acceptable.

Duration: 6 - 12 months

Job Duties:

As a result of her disorder, Sue has limited movement of her hands, torso, and limbs. She has limited ability to speak, and communicates largely using eyebrows, eyelids, and pointing.

Despite her severe physical limitations, Sue has high cognitive function and is aware of her surroundings.

Sue is on a feeding tube and receives daily respiratory therapy. Because she is an aspiration risk, she can never be at less than 45-degree angle, even during diaper changes and dressing. Sue has urinary incontinence, and uses a wicking catheter at night. She rarely has bowel incontinence and uses a commode.

Nurse would be responsible for ADLs, range of motion exercises, strength training, hygiene, administering health treatments (nebulizer, cough assist), maintaining feeding tube, companionship, and ensuring mental well-being and physical safety. A more detailed care plan / schedule is available upon request.

The ideal candidate will have enough intelligence, knowledge, and experience to recognize when Sue is in trouble and address the problem. Candidates with non-US medical training are encouraged to apply. The nurse must also have sufficient English fluency to communicate clearly with the rest of Sue's care team in a timely fashion.

Sue lives with her daughter in a former board-and-care apartment on Alameda (near Ballena Bay Yacht Club). Her apartment has a roll-in shower, and grab bars throughout the unit, as well as floor to ceiling views of the harbor and SF Bay. There is safe, ample street parking out front or within 1-2 blocks of the unit.

Live-in accommodations (private room + private bathroom) are available.
