That means many weekends are filled with jet setting across the country.Role SummaryThe internship at Alaska Airlines offers students a hands-on experience in various departments, allowing them to work on impactful projects that contribute to the company's business and community growth. Interns will have the opportunity to network with employees and leaders while enjoying standby travel privileges on Alaska Airlines during their internship.The Operations Research Analytics (OR) Team’s primary goal is to provide actionable insights, decision-support tools, and optimization suites that improve pricing, inventory management, schedule & fleet performance, and overall revenue generation to the Revenue Management and Pricing Department and profit maximization to Capacity Planning Departments.As a graduate intern within the Operations Research team you will be tasked with completing technical and quantitative projects to support core business objectives.Key Duties
Completes technical research projects on understanding and measuring the revenue impact of diverse strategic business initiatives in a constrained transportation network.
Uses a state-of-the-art airline revenue management, schedule, and customer behavior simulation to conduct research, leveraging deep knowledge of airline optimization best practices, choice modeling, simulation, and python programming.
Provides analytical support and relevant data to stakeholders for ad hoc analysis.
Fosters strong, collaborative working relationships across workgroups.
Develops the ability to independently develop structured project plans from ambiguous prompts.
Develops strong technical skills by applying object-oriented programming (python), querying tools (SQL), and synthesizing data insights in concise and easy-to-understand presentations.
Selects the best methodologies to approach business problems and contributes to the continuous improvement of stakeholder processes and data life-cycle.
Researches new data sources and analytical tools to enhance the data-driven business process.
Create and Document model design and configuration to train new and existing team members

Job-Specific Experience, Education & SkillsRequired
Pursuing a graduate degree in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, or Civil Engineering with a focus in Transportation Engineering Systems.
Experience conducting simulation research within the airline industry domain.
Experience in consulting in the systems / transportation space
Demonstrated experience working with disparate data sources and data blending.
Proven analytical and data skills through completed coursework and/or research
Intermediate skill working with object-oriented programming (python)
Experience with applied statistics and probability.
Ability to work well with multiple, diverse teams.
Data-driven mindset and a proven history of continuous self-development.
Minimum age of 18.
Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
Preferred
Pursuing a PhD in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, or Civil Engineering.
Demonstrated experience in managing complex projects or processes.
