Bronze Studio Wax Technician for Art
Rusty Mesa is seeking a wax technician with the ability to sculpt, weld and dress, to become a part of our team!
Rusty Mesa is a bronze art studio fabricating sculpture according to the guidance and vision of the original artist.
We are looking for someone with a well-rounded knowledge of the lost wax process specifically with experience in the wax department. This would include recognizing the viscosity and temperature conducive for pouring wax into a warm mold, pulling wax from the mold — then welding wax and dressing the piece.
It is sometimes necessary to do some re-sculpting to the artist’s exact intended form in this process.
It is a plus to have knowledge of how molds are engineered and how best a piece casts from the wax are crucial.
It is important to have an artistic sense and background in relation to form and texture.
Experience welding and/or chasing metal is a huge plus, due to the quality of the replication in wax can make the time in metal minimal. Your skill in wax can avoid undo time sculpting in metal due to a flaw in wax.
Starting wage depends on experience, Basic range: $16-20/hour. Bench marking of skill level is required.
Quality and skill level along with enthusiasm and the inclination for the work will be evaluated in 90 days.
Qualifications:
Three years’ experience with a high school diploma, it is a plus to have BFA and/or MFA.

Install and repair various equipment and components.
Track and maintain mold rooms
Proficiency with tools and understanding of procedures and safety regulations.
Follow instructions and specifications with each piece in production.
