Job Coach/Follow Along Job Support Specialist
Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Job Coach to provide support to an adult male with intellectual disabilities working in outdoor landscaping, trash removal, and other tasks. This individual works independently but requires occasional reminders, prompting, and encouragement to complete job tasks efficiently. Your role will be to ensure he receives the assistance he needs to thrive in his job, maintain consistent performance, and continue to build skills for long-term success.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide on-site support to ensure the individual completes all work tasks.
Offer reminders and prompts to help with task completion, ensuring safety, organization, and quality of work.
Observe work performance and provide feedback to encourage independence while maintaining a high standard of quality.
Assist with setting goals and provide guidance on task prioritization, time management, and completing work within designated timeframes.
Foster a positive and supportive work environment, encouraging the individual to take pride in their work and build confidence.
Provide necessary support during tasks that require more attention.
Develop and implement strategies to help with focus, retention of instructions, and consistency in completing the tasks.
Maintain regular communication with the individual’s supervisors to ensure they are satisfied with job performance.
Document progress, tasks completed, and any challenges faced during the job coaching process.
Help the individual navigate any workplace social dynamics and provide strategies for effective communication with coworkers.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required; experience or education in Social Work, Psychology, Education, or related field preferred.
Prior experience working with adults with intellectual disabilities, particularly in job coaching or support roles.
Comfortable working outdoors and in varying weather conditions.
Ability to offer clear, constructive instructions and provide reminders with patience and consistency.
Ability to foster independence while providing necessary prompts and support when needed.
Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Compassionate, patient, and understanding.
Reliable transportation and flexibility to travel to the job site as required.
CPR and First Aid certification preferred, or ability to obtain certification.
Working Conditions:
Primarily outside work environment.
Hours: 7am – 3:30 pm, Monday thru Friday. Part-time availability will be considered.
