Position Summary: This position oversees all points of quality inspection throughout the three breweries at Fort George. The Sensory Coordinator’s role will be evaluating and monitoring everything from ingredients, processes, finished beer, recipe development, all pre-packaged beers, flawed beers, and flawed ingredients. This position works closely with brew staff, pub department, sales, and marketing departments to ensure all beers are held within spec and adjusted when falling out of spec. Varying schedule to include weekends, evenings, holidays, and extended hours as business dictates.

Essential Functions:

General

Running sensory evaluation on pre-packaged beers

Putting together steep and dry hop tests for all incoming ingredients and ones that are new to the market

Performing bench top trials on new recipes and new brands

Evaluating data logged by brew staff and lab personnel to improve our quality and efficiency

Work with brew, cellar, and packaging teams to ensure best practices are maintained, evolved, and continuously refined/improved

Recording process changes on core recipes and reviewing sensory data to ensure continuous improvement

Work with the Marketing/Sales team to constantly improve our beer based upon the changing market; i.e. styles/guidelines, consistency, consumer preferences, emerging trends, and overall just awesome beer people want to drink

Check-ins with pub staff to confirm the quality of draught systems

Evaluation of barrel-aged beer stock and blends

All other duties assigned by supervisors

Attending industry functions and building key relationships with outside partners in pursuit of goals and overall mission

Communication:

High level of communication with supervisors

Respectfulness & professionalism in all communication

Working with suppliers to maintain quality in the ingredients used by the brewery

Daily meeting with coworkers at production facility

Weekly meetings with Brewery Managers

Quarterly write-ups on the state of sensory for brew staff

Ability to closely work with pub department, sales, and marketing department to ensure all beers are held within spec and adjusted when falling out of spec

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, & Ideal Qualification:

Must be 21 years of age.

At least 3 years experience working in a brewery

Proficiency in spreadsheet and Draughtlab(Or Current Fort George Sensory Software

Ability to operate a forklift, pallet jack, and scissor lift; incumbent will need to be certified within 3 months from the date of hire on all three pieces of equipment

Valid OLCC card acquired within 3 months of hire

Basic mechanical competency

Ability to read labels on chemicals and understand SDS sheets

Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions associated with brewing, cellaring, and packaging

Must be able to adapt to frequent changes in workload and adjust priorities quickly as circumstances dictate

Ability to communicate effectively in a high-noise environment
